ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

AC is not cold anymore and summer is comming

My AC is the same as fan now.
I was told the car used the old style refridgerant, which is no longer made.
    Is this true?
I was told I would have to retrofit it with a newer style AC system.
If so, what are good alternatives?

You need to recharge the AC system.

they dont make r-12 anymore.... but that dosent mean you cant take it to a ac shop and have it recharged... just becuase something isnt made anymore dosent mean you cant get your hands on it any more... the easiet thing to do is retrofit.. they sell the kit at advanced and autozone... but take it to a ac shop and let them do a leak test on it 1st... if you got a leak and retro fit all the frigedernt is going to leak right back out and thats just money out the pipes....

Please, Leave me some feeedback on my ride ^CLICK ^CLICK ^CLICK

I thought retrofit meant new AC unit all together.

no it just means they replace your current old R12 freon w/ newer, more environmentally friendly R134-A freon. R12 is better and gets colder, but isn't as widely available now. They do make a Freeze12 I believe that can be used w/ R12 freon.... But yeah, have the mech. first put a dye in the system to diagnose for leaks and see if you have a leaking discharge line. Mine was leaking pretty bad and was noticeable after the mech. put this special dye in that shows up under a certain infrared light. He'll have you drive around for a day or two w/ the A/C on to circulate throughout the system and then you go back and he'll inspect w/ that light and see if its leaking or not.

are you sure your system has never been converted? Check the blue cap and see if it has threads on the inside or outside of the connector. IF it has it on the inside I bet it has already been concerted and you just need to get a refill kit. I highly recommend just getting a simple recharge kit that has a built in gauge and with refrigerant that has some oil and leak sealer in it. You will probably have to keep adding leak sealer and refrigerant for a while till it either clogs the leaks. Might take a few cans of that

Let us know if it works.

If you need to do a retrofit you should just go the simple route and get a kit for like $40.

I guess I'll change over to the new stuff.
apparently you need a license to legally buy R12.
I'm pretty sure my car has never been converted, it's a 93 and the ac has never been recharged.

I have had pretty good luck with Freeze 12 in one of my old dodges. Down and dirty I just put two cans in it and its on its 3rd year.

I use 134a in my 88 honda but I converted it myself and it works pretty well up to about the lows 90's then the performance kinda drops off.
