ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Well, I found out the problem. The #5 cam journal got all screwed up and seized after chewing up the camshaft. That in turn snapped off the cam sprocket, lol. So with the head being toast, I got my buddy's F22A4 and used the long block and exhaust manifold with everything else from the F22A6. I'll post some pics up later, but I'm hoping to have the car up and running this weekend!

does anyone know why the A4 exhaust manifold is better than the A6.

-where are the O2 sensor locations for each manifold.
-and if i were to buy an aftermarket exhaust manifold, DC Sports or something, do i have to worry if it is for the A4 or A6 motor? or are all aftermarket exhaust manifolds perform the same for all engines.

The A4 manifold is tubular, while the A6 manifold is cast. The designs are similar, and if there is a difference, it's likely not significant.

The A4 is IDENTICAL to the low-end F22A1 other than that exhaust manifold. The F22A6 is superior in just about every way. The A4 intake manifold is the same as the A1 manifold. The blocks are identical in all 3 engines. Your friend has NO idea what he is talking about... which makes me wonder if he knows anything about the engine (enough to say what condition it's in)

Was that directed at me? If so, what are you talking about?

Do you know the condition of the motor firsthand, or are you going by what your buddy says? He clearly knows absolutely nothing about the differences between the F22A motors, so I would seriously doubt his assessment of its condition. "good condition" may mean that it runs... who knows how well. If you have intimate knowledge of the motor, then go for it... Have you performed any tests on it to determine the condition?

Of course, if it's free, it'll just be the cost of installing it and getting it running that you have to worry about. For the most part, that's not too bad. As long as it runs.

Well, when did I say anything about his knowledge of these motors? Sorry, I can't find it, lol. Yes, I have first hand experience with the engine, I've driven the car before he did his F22B DOHC swap. It ran great. Leaked some oil, but I replaced all of those gaskets, but it has good compression, and ran just fine when he pulled it. I know, because I helped him take it out!

Right there shows that he knows next to nothing about the engine that was in his car.

If you've actually worked with it, then perhaps it'll be ok. Swap over all your F22A6 parts, and it'll be an F22A6. If you want to do it right, you'll need the intake manifold, cam (obviously not the one you broke... ), valve springs (not really necessary, but they ARE different between the A6 and A4/A1), windage tray (the A6 is the only F22A to have one), and of course the ECU which should still be in the car anyway.

Oh, well he hasn't worked with the engine's for quite a while (he's more into Nissans like myself), so he forgot which motor had the better manifolds, lol. As for me, I'm just running the A4 long block, with the A6 intake Manifold and accessories. The exhaust manifold I found out is from his DOHC F22B, because he used the A4 manifold on that motor (so apparently, he knew before, lol). So, it doesn't matter which manifold I use, because they even have the same casting numbers, lol. The head casting is slightly different than the A6 also, because the A4 does not have a bolt hole for the second mounting point for the ignition coil. Also, the A4 doesn't have the coolant setup that goes around the oil filter. Since this car is just an auto, I figured it wouldn't be that important, haha.

The oil cooler will just twist off if you wanted to keep it.

Well, she fired up on the first crank! Engine made some noises for the first 30-60 seconds (typical), but once the oil started flowing around, she ran smooth and quiet! It was a long week, haha Haven't driven it yet, but the tranny seems to go into gear just fine, and everything seems to work. I'm going to clean her up today, and take pics and give a report on how well she runs!
