ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    HELP - Bad Gas Mileage

So the rundown is as follows :

    - With my F22A6 I used to get 600KM (373miles) per tank
    - With my stock H22A I used to get 450KM (280miles) per tank
    - With my 2nd H22A with head work and Stage 2 cams I'm down to 300-350KM (186-217miles) per tank

Keep in mind that I beat on my car a lot. I take off from every street light with 4000 RPM shifts. If someone takes off with me, I go into VTEC all the way to red line and I don't let them pass. So you could say I have a heavy foot, as well as the M2B4 tranny which has pretty short gears. I wish I had a 6th gear, but I don't, so I'm at 4500 RPM in 5th on my drive to and from work for a good hour everyday.

I do maintain my car very well. Oil changes every 3000KM (1864miles). Spark plugs, distributor cap, and rotor every 15000KM (9320 miles) and so on... The car has a chipped P28 and IS tuned.

    BUT

Just over 200 miles per tank seems a little ridiculous to me for a "4 banger". One of my buddy's Turbo Talon with a built motor running 25 PSI of boost burns half that, and his car does 11's at the track. And here I am with a 14 second N/A Honda gulping gas like an American V8.

What can I do to improve my gas mileage?? Someone suggested looking at all the sensors. They told me to start by replacing my oxygen sensor. It's not throwing an O2 CEL, but I haven't replaced it for a couple years now, and I heard that those things are only good for about 50000KM (31070 miles) before they go faulty.

    What else?

(And don't say "slow down"! That is not an option.)

My CB7 is now ***FOR SALE***

I dont think its that bad If your beating on it all the time.
Though if your on the freeway for an hour, and your using that much gas, you could get that map leaned out a touch in the crusing area.
Has it got a chipped ecu?

          Not Good MPG.

But why are you changing oil at 3000KM? Couldnt you go to about 4500 or 4800

Are you tuned? If you're running a top end that is that heavily modified on a P13, that would explain quite a lot!

I just like to keep my fluids clean. I do it myself, so it only costs me $25. I know a guy who changes his oil every week on his B20 VTEC. Motors run harder, longer on clean oil.

But is that P28 tuned for your car, or are you running someone else's tune?

You've checked all your filters, right? I recently replaced my fuel filter and got another 2-3 mpg....just a thought

There is absolutely no reason to change your oil every week. That does nothing for your car. 1 week, 1 month isnt going to make any difference on longevity or how "strong" the motor runs. However, if he is actually racing on a track for hours every week, then yes, changing the oil after every race is a big deal. When you're road racing sustaining high temps and RPMs for hours, oil takes abuse. If not racing, thats just dumb.
As for your mileage, if you're driving WOT everywhere, thats to be expected. I suggest getting a wideband and monitorinig your AFR to see if you actually are running rich. I have AEM's 6 in 1 for $235. Let me know if you're interested

oil supposed to get dirty that is one of its functions...but i kinda see your logic about changing it more often which i guess makes sense but i dont agree with it. You should do an oil analysis and really find out whats going on to your oil after 3k...pretty much like throwing money away I would imagine. Your 02 sensor might be getting lazy...you can check its resistence however its not always entirely accurate if its not up to operating temp. what do you drive alot of highway or all stop and go? how are you Afrs when cruising?
