ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

i was wondering if a h23 head would be better on my f22a6 or leave the stock head on?

Frankenstein headswaps aren't the greatest idea. I've known them to fail when done by some very knowledgeable people. It introduces a whole bunch of things that you could do incorrectly.

The F22B DOHC head is a better choice, as I think it goes right on.

The F22A6 head is very good, though. I'd take the money you'd spend on a head and get some headwork done on the F22A6 head (or pick up another one cheap to have worked). You'd gain more from a P&P on an F22A head than you would from a headswap.

Nowhere. It's cheap, so it must be a good idea. Go for it.

It need 4 valves. It's not all good.

Why were those valves damaged? Is there any scoring on the head? Did the damaged valves do further damage to the head?

Honestly, my previous statement was quite sarcastic. Just because you can get a cheap damaged head doesn't mean putting it on is a great idea.

Tell me this... is your CB7 your only car, or a project car? If it's a project car that you can afford to have down for a while... have fun with it. If it's what you rely on to get to work... this is not a good idea.

Also, the h23 makes 160hp. The F22A6 makes 140hp. Now, you're going to put this head on. You'll have less displacement AND lower compression. How much horsepower do you really expect to gain?

Valves were probably bent with a broken timing belt!

I have a whole F22A sitting here incase anyone needs it or parts. Only thing bad with it was the headgasket. No broken t-belt or anything.

Yeah, with the Frankensteining.... H22, H23 head.. eh, just put the whole H22 or H23 in it. So you got the head cheap for $75, great. Now you'll have to spend $200 to have it inspected and pressure tested by a machinist (unless you can do it yourself) to make sure the other valves are good and there are no cracks where you can see them. Believe me on this, you WANT to inspect a used head.
A customer broke his T-belt and I had the head sent to machinist for a couple valves and inspection. He pressure tested it and found a crack on the main head oil passage! So image doing that whole head/t-belt job only to have the thing starved of oil later

Yeah, likely a broken timing belt... or a mis-shift. Either way, something hit the valves. A piston doesn't smack the valves and just damage the valves... Those valves are in the head, and pressure needed to be put on them in an unintended manner to do that damage. A hairline fracture in the head may not be visible, but pressurize air, fuel, or coolant and it'll be noticeable.

so it would be better to get another f22a6 head? thats all that i need because mine is bad(do to lifters and such) and it would cost too much to repair my head now than it would to get a new one?

I've sold F22A heads for $35-$70 in the past.

If you know your head to be good, but the components on it are bad... it'd probably be cheaper and better overall to just replace what needs to be replaced. As said above, you'd need to have a used head tested for cracks to be safe. If yours is known to be good, then the removable parts can be replaced easily enough.

www.tasauto.com can probably get you anything you need, stock or upgrade. Contact them, and tell them that I sent you. They'll be more than happy to help a cb7tuner member!
