    How to remove ignition tumbler??

OK, I need to change my ignition tumbler out. Not the ignition switch or the whole assembly, just the lock cylinder the key goes into. I have the replacement tumbler, but I need to know how to remove the old one and install the new one. Anybody know? This is a 92 Acura Vigor but I'm pretty sure it would be the same on the Accord and any other early 90s Honda/Acura

line in the two bald screws, deep enought that u can get a flathead in and un screw the bolts

also i used an impact driver which is the screwdriver that u hit it with a hammer and breaks the screw loose

      That's not for the tumbler...

Just take off the steering covers and remove the steering wheel. There are 3 or 4 screws you take out, and you can pull the tumbler right out of the ignition assembly.

How would I remove the steering wheel without messing with the airbag? the only steering wheel I've ever taken off was on my old 1990 240sx and it didn't have airbags...just popped the front cover off and removed one bolt in the middle. But I'm not sure on this car...would it be the same or?

Also, I'd remove the screws from the ignition assembly and the lock cylinder will just slide out? There's no pins or anything special to taking it out, such as putting the key in O or I position, etc?

There should be a little cover held on by two screws underneath the steering wheel. You can unplug the airbag from the yellow harness and plug in the red dummy connector (should be clipped onto the cover) to disable to airbag. You can then remove the steering wheel.

Is removal of the steering wheel absolutely necessary? Also, anybody know if the Beck Arnley tumbler keys can be replicated with an Acura key? I ask because the BA key has a smaller "head" than my Acura one and I'd like to create a duplicate with an Acura blank.

Alright so I have time to get in there and do it. I have the whole lock assembly like I said. So what do I do?

Just pull the electrical ignition SWITCH off of the tumbler and remove the 3 or 4 screws, then connect the switch to the new tumbler and put the screws back in?

The tumbler will pull out of the ignition switch, rather than vice-versa. But other than that, you pretty much just pull it out, and put the new one in.

Yea I'm actually looking at the tumbler right now. I can see the lock part pushing in and turning and all that. And on the bottom there's a "stem" type thing. So I'm assuming that whole thing will just come out of the car and the new one will slide in...there's no place for an electrical connection.

So it has to be in the 0 position with the key out to install it and everything should be good right?

The thing is someone stole my car and only took the stereo. They punched the ignition so now I can't stick my key all the way in and I can start the car with anything that'll fit in the keyhole. So I'm just doing a direct swap out and hopefully the switch itself isn't fucked up.

Do you think I would need to replace the switch also? As it is right now, the car turns over fine and everything. It is just that you don't have to push the key to start or turn off the engine. And when you open the door, the car will beep because it thinks there is a key in it. So I'm assuming, as I have this whole time, that it is only the tumbler/lock that is messed up. But I don't know much about the system.

Alright so I took off the steering column covers and there is a white plastic piece that is around the ignition housing. It is the key illumination light I believe, since the illumination clear piece is connected to it. Then there is a wiring harness that is wrapped around the ignition housing...I am assuming this is the electrical portion of the ignition switch.

So how am I supposed to get the tumbler out of the housing? All I see for screws is one on the bottom of the ignition housing, and that is holding a plastic "connector" onto the housing...some wires running off of it.

Then on the back side of the housing (facing firewall) there is a screw.

Then there is a very tiny philips screw in the ignition housing facing the steering wheel. But on my new tumbler, there is no place where a screw would go in, so I'm not sure exactly what that is.

Those two screws are the only screws I see, and I'm not sure what much to do.

Something weird happened....my tumbler magically works fine now. I took the car to the shop because I knew I had bad bearings in a pulley, just couldn't figure out which one. And after I got the car back, my tumbler worked like normal. I asked them if they did anything to it and they said no. All they did was turn the car on and off....they didn't even know it was messed up. So it must have just been really stuck. Who knows. I'm stumped, but whatever.....
