ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

How long was the car sitting before everything was complete? If it sat without being started for a while, the battery may be weak.

Does it turn over? if so are you getting spark and fuel? Check engine lights? Double check that the head and block are both at TDC when they are supposed to be.

fif it's cranking but not starting, I'd say your timing is off....... realign the timing marks on the flywheel to TDC and see if the cam is in the right position

Ok, so that's probably fine. Are you sure your battery cables are clean? (sounds stupid, I know... but I spent $300 on new parts one time, only to find that dirty cables were the cause of my no-start situation!)

No start, but cranking, can only mean two things... no spark, or no fuel.

Pull a sparkplug, but leave it attached to the wire. Hold it near something metal, and have someone crank the engine. Look for spark. Then smell for fuel at the empty sparkplug hole. If you see spark, your ignition is working... so it's probably a fuel issue. If it's a fuel issue, look first to the main relay, then the fuel pump.

If you get no spark, then look to your distributor cap and rotor (cheap). Then your igniter (not as cheap), and then your coil (more expensive yet)... Finally, the distributor itself (cheap! not...)

Of course... as mentioned above... did you properly align the cam gear for the correct timing? Do you have cylinder #1 at TDC on both the cam gear and the crank pulley?

The ignition timing itself won't really affect starting, but the mechanical timing will.

If his distributor timing is off it will still start you can't mess it up to bad unless you mean he put the wires in a different order or has is 180 out of degree.
