ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

UTI has a program that focuses on modifying cars, but that's about it. Tuning isn't really something you go to school for. You learn by yourself, or from others that already know. You'd probably be better off trying to get a job (paid or unpaid) at a good speed shop, preferably one with a dyno. You could learn from the experts there. All About Performance in Woodbury Heights is a great place. They have a dyno, they tune with Crome (one of the guys that works there helped write the program), and they specialize in Hondas.

im tryin to find one myself near the south carolina or michigan area.

there is specialist schools you can go to that have programs that focus on a certain make like they have honda, toyota, nissian..etc..
Wife: "Why do you get G power platinum and i only get V power?"
Me:"Cause i have the high compression 93 octane only H22 and you have the bullet proof F22."
          Wife:........................"But yours are prettier"

          ---------------------------------------------------
Wife:Baby, not everybody wants to do the 93 conversion"
Me:YES THEY DO, THEY JUST DON'T KNOW IT YET.

Most automotive technical schools will just teach you how to work on a car... with the knowledge of how things work, you'll be able to figure out how to make them work better...
Well, "better" is a relative term. From the factory, cars are set to be reliable, efficient, clean, and quiet. A "tuner" puts performance over one or all of those other requirements. By decreasing one or all of those attributes, a "tuner" can make much more power from a car. That's the mechanical side of it, anyway.

I assume that you're thinking more along the lines of electronic tuning, though... Am I right? I don't know if even the "performance" tracks of the automotive tech schools like UTI offer training like that. They may, but most ECU tuners study and practice on their own. Accord R33 and MRX will tell you... it's a lot of work and studying, moreso if you don't already have an aptitude for it (as the CB7tuner tech guy, I KNOW R33 has the aptitude for computer stuff )

Doesnt matter. Most tuning is universal. the only main difference is the programs used and vehicles. And most people learn by themselves by trial and error.

Thats also if you want to be a certified tuner of their parts. You have to be certified for HKS, AEM, Hondata, and some others. They dont want some no name dude to tune there software and give them a bad name.

If you're serious about becoming a tuner, theres lots of stuff to read. Here is an example.

Most of all EFI tuning is more of a skill that takes lots of experience to hone. You have to understand how your computer uses all of the sensors to determine the A/F ratio and understand how to change the different parameters.

I've got that book in my bathroom right now It's also for sale in the CB7tuner bookstore www.cb7tuner.com/bookstore.htm

It's a very good book, but still just that... a book. A class would certainly be beneficial. Unfortunately, there aren't many around. There IS a Greddy office in Old Bridge NJ... I don't know if they'd train you on the emanage there or not.
