Did the Accord ever come with rear discs as an option? I found this at the junkyard today:






I think it was a 1993. It had a BOSE sound system, leather interior, and rear discs. Those discs should be a direct drop in for my 1991 LX Coupe, right? I remember reading a DIY disc thread on this board, but if I recall it was the rear disc/hub from a different vehicle, not even Accord.

That maybe be an SE, 10th annivesary came with disc all around so yes it's possible.

what are the advantages of running discs all around? I have a pair of rear discs but not sure if i wanna sell them or replace the drums.

Yes yes some of the acura cl's have that setup to. It bolts right over. Some say u want the rear proportioning valve and master outta the rear disk car to. But more say its not necessary. And more braking power. Upgrade possibilities. And u don't have to be that guy with the painted drums. Haha

I personally think that there is no real serious advantage to changing over to disks unless its a strictly performance vehicle. The breaks cool off a little better so its more durable and last but not least easier to swap out the brakes when you go to change em out with new pads.

That's really the only reason I'm interested in doing this. It sounds like all I need to grab is the calipers (including the last soft and hard lines w/ brackets), the rotors and splash guards, and the parking brake cable. From what I've read, it's also advantageous for me to grab the rear sway bar and crossbeam as well. If the parts are in decent condition and the junk yard is reasonable, say sub $100, then I suspect it's worth the time...

A bit OT: if I want to swap to the 15" front rotors found on the 5-doors, do I need to swap the calipers as well? The mounting bracket too, yeah?

a 15 on the 5-doors???? I dont understand what you just said. I dont know about that you probably have to check the clearance on that im not sure because I never swapped them out for larger calipers

The 5-door accords (wagon...) have 15" front rotors. The calipers (and subassemblies) have different part numbers. I'm curious if they're different than the 14" setup on my '91 LX, or if perhaps the knuckle itself is what's different.

The wagon (and many other Hondas) have 11.1" rotors. Wagons all have 15" wheels. I doubt that's what you meant. And yes, it has larger calipers as well.

OP, you just found a '93 SE sedan. I don't mean to come off as rude but it's nothing special. I just don't want you handing away money to the junkyard because you think that stuff on it is really rare.

If you want to do a rear disc swap you'll need the whole rear knuckle. The knuckle for a drum brake care doesn't have mounting provisions for the caliper. The DIY on the subject covers most of the info about it.

It's rare in the sense that it's a 20 year old car that hasn't been completely stripped/trashed.

how many SE's do you see on a monthly basis??? RARE. they only came in about 4-? single digit color availability. leather seats and door panels, bose sound system, different dash, SE Alluminum 15' rims (ugly but RARE), rear discs, and the A6. TAN LEATHER, *BLACK LEATHER, IVORY WHITE LEATHER (RARE).

I saw a complete se in my junkyard a few months back. I considered buying the whole car since it was low mileage and I have a spare f22. But I passed on it cuz I already have 2 CBs. I regret it now

I'm sorry, it's just not what I would consider rare. More rare than DX/LX/EX cars? Maybe. But they are still available at any particular time to rummage parts from. There are 4 SE sedans at one particular junkyard here in Houston right now. But I don't want to argue something that's opinion-based if you're going to get your panties in a wad about it.
