ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    F22a6 Turbo Build

Hello everyone. I'm going to start a turbo build here on the beginner threads. Any questions anybody has I'll do my best to answer, and I know that I've got some questions too, so any help is appreciated.

So to start off I've scowered the forums and google for information on my vehicle, and compiled a list of parts to get me started. For those of you with the knowledge and experience, if you see something you think is just a terrible idea, or know of a better way feel free to throw your .02 in. Thanks guys, heres where my list is at so far.

P.S. All prices were rounded up to make math easier.

    1. ARP Head studs - Ebay.com - $135
    2. Fel-Pro Head gasket kit - summitracing.com - $130
    3. P06 ECU - Craigslist, junk yard, Ebay.com - $25-$50
    4. Honda water pump - estore.honda.com - $72
    5. OEM Honda oil pump assy. - estore.honda.com - $270
    6. Custom made exhaust system - Not yet priced
    7. High flow catalytic converter - Not yet priced
    8. Walbro 255 in-tank fuel pump - Highflowfuel.com - $80
    9. H23a intake manifold and throttle body - Ebay.com - $130
    10. Piston rings - Not yet priced
    11. OEM Honda crank and rod bearings - estore.honda.com - $110
    12. 16g turbo - Ebay.com - $200
    13. DSM 1st gen 450cc Injectors - remanufactured - injectorwhse.com - $144
    14. 2.5" universal fmic piping - Ebay.com - $150
    15. Bisimoto H-beam Rod and 9.1/1 Piston Combo (good for 300-800whp) - bisimoto.com - $790-$820
    16. H22 LSD Transmission - Not yet priced
    17. Stage 2 Clutch kit - Not yet priced
    18. DSM exhaust manifold - Ebay.com - $60-$80

Note: I went with an H22 LSD transmission (as opposed to the f22 or h23's) because I feel that the shorter gears will go well with the larger 16g turbo.
Anything you guys have to add that I missed feel free to add. I'm looking to make anywhere between 220-250hp.

Stay tuned because she is going to get a compression test done next monday! This turbo build may turn into a complete bottom end build! I'll post pics as I go along. Thanks for reading!

Update: Please be aware, as brought up by other members, you will need oil lines, a catch can, wideband o2, probably want a boost gauge, and definitely an oil psi gauge. Also I haven't been able to locate a downpipe made for this type of set up, and so you will need to have one custom made. It has also been brought to my attention that 3" fmic piping is overkill for this setup. You wouldnt need that size unless going for more power, up over 300hp. For my goals, 2.5" is sufficient.

Please keep in mind this is my FIRST turbo build, so I will not immediately have all of the answers. The above list is the product of about 2 weeks worth of searching and cross referencing. I still have very much to learn about boosting cars, so please do not use my list without doing your own researching.

Taking other members suggestions into consideration, I searched for forged pistons for the f22. If your wondering about using h22 forged pistons because you cant find any forged f22 pistons, it is possible if you have your block bored to 87mm. From what I've read, the standard for the f22 is 85mm. Anyways, a majority of people are suggesting use of bisimoto.com or f22parts.com.

    3. Chipped P06 ECM - - http://www.ebay.com/itm/OBD1-NON-VTE...6a1d12&vxp=mtr - $135 - I included a link because I wanted you guys to check that out.
    4. Honda water pump - estore.honda.com - $72
    5. Oil pump - autopartswarehouse.com - $240
    6. Magnaflow catback exhaust system - autopartswarehouse.com - $490
    7. High flow catalytic converter - Ebay.com - $30
    8. Walbro 255 in-tank fuel pump - Highflowfuel.com - $80

    13. DSM 1st gen 450cc Injectors - remanufactored - injectorwhse.com - $144
    14. 3" universal fmic piping - Ebay.com - $250

    Subtotal - $2,276

So now here are my questions. What do you guys think of that ECM from Ebay? I've recently been trying to learn how to use Crome, doesn't seem too complicated but this guy claims if you tell him what mods you have and what your looking for he can write you something. Seems foolish but I wanted to check anyways.
Anything you guys have to add that I missed feel free to add. I'm looking to make anywhere between 220-250hp.

Better add pistons to that list, if you want a shred of reliability in that engine. The F series pistons have weak ringlands that will eventually break, might be a day, might be 2 years.

I was pondering that and if I'm doing the rings and bearings I might as well do the pistons too. I also read that apparently the stock pistons and rings in the DSM 4G63's are extremely similar in diameter and shape, also rated for a higher horsepower. Judging by the numbers that would be a good route to go, let me know what you guys have heard.

Oil feed lines, taped oil pan, a decent catch can, a good clutch, custom down pipe... just a few things that come to mind.
You can get cheap forged rods on ebay if not the aftermarket pistons wrist pins will have to modified to fit the stock rods. If you go with stock rods atleast invest in some gsr 9mm ARP rod bolts, if you do this just IMO i wouldn't mess with the rod or main bearings, but if you go with forged you're going to have to triple check clearances before buying rod bearings. For stock rings nippon is OEM and can be found on ebay.

Also a p06 can be had for around $60 and don't forget the tune!

EDIT: Also i would skip anything exhaust wise and have one built. Intercooler piping can be had for cheaper, but invest in some good clamp's. Up keep is also a big factor with boosted cars or any highly modified setup. I would also get an oil psi gauge aswell.
It's nice to have hopes... what i always say is wish in one hand and shit in the other and see which one fills faster.

The optimism in this thread is killing me. If you're going to start an informative turbo build, then at least make it informative. You've failed to address any of the potential hazards and downfalls of turbocharging an F22, much less a factory one. Putting together wish lists can be a fun way to spend an evening but when you do so in a way that informs people as to what they'll need, you need to have your facts straight.

A 16G is a bigger turbo and will make quick work of that bottom end. To handle it you'll need pistons and rods like others suggested. That's easily another $1000 in parts and machining. A dyno tune will run you another $500 with a tune. Any program someone makes for your engine based off of the mods you tell them you have will only be a baseline tune and will be good enough (maybe) to get you to the dyno.
My Members' Ride Thread - It's a marathon build, not a sprint. But keep me honest on the update frequency!

            Don't forget-
            Wideband
            Boost gauge

No reason to get 3 inch intercooler pipe, go with 2.5.

From the info I've gathered, a 14b is too small for the f22, and that the 16g is a good fit. All I had to do is google f22a 16g turbo and tons of links pop up about people running this setup anywhere between 7-9 psi with no problems on a stock bottom end.... Hense why I didn't add anything about aftermarket rods and pistons. ALSO the build hasn't started yet, I plan to address these issues throughout the build, as I originally stated I made a parts list for me to START with. This is not even close to being done, I haven't even got a compression test done yet. Don't be so quick to bash my thread.

On the other side, I've read of people trying this and busting their ringlands immediately... Obviously its something to look in to. Most claim with a good enough tune you can pull it off.

No. Unless your going for 600+whp 2.5 inch intercooler pipe is plenty.

Details.... Another search concluded 2.5 is good for anything up to 700-800hp, the writer claims he used some sort of air flow calculator.

I've moved this thread to the Beginner Off Topic section, simply to discourage other whoring noobs from saying "nice build bro!"
The thread wasn't misplaced, and I know dj_ender gave permission to post it in the technical section (where it WOULD belong, but since it doesn't ask a specific question or give specific instruction, it's best not in that section.)

I'm sure you're more than capable of reaching 30 posts quickly enough without this thread doing it (especially since only 3 of your current 9 posts were in this thread in the first place!)

                    Anyway, on to the topic...
                    1. ARP Head studs - Ebay.com - $135 Good. Be sure they are authentic (I don't know of ARP studs being copied, but buy from a reputable seller just to be safe.)

                    2. Fel-Pro head gasket set - summitracing.com - $130 Fel-pro is decent. OEM Honda is better.

                    3. Chipped P06 ECM - - http://www.ebay.com/itm/OBD1-NON-VTE...6a1d12&vxp=mtr - $135 - I included a link because I wanted you guys to check that out. Don't pay $135 for a P06! What are you, nuts? Get a P06 from a junkyard... around me, that's $15. Get a chipping kit from a reputable seller, such as moates.net. $20-$25 tops. CAREFULLY install the chipping kit, or find a computer nerd that knows how to use a soldering iron to do it for you. Tuning is something you might want to practice BEFORE you install the turbo, on a stock F22A. It's much harder to blow up a stock F22A than a boosted one!

                    4. Honda water pump - estore.honda.com - $72 Good.

                    5. Oil pump - autopartswarehouse.com - $240 What brand is this? I would honestly stick to OEM Honda for the oil pump. If the oil pump fails, your engine is toast. Don't mess around here.

                    6. Magnaflow catback exhaust system - autopartswarehouse.com - $490 For turbo, you're best going with an exhaust that is larger than most aftermarket systems designed for an Accord (most of those are 2.25"-2.36"). Get custom piping. 2.5"-3". You'll need a custom downpipe anyway, so might as well have an exhaust shop do it all!

                    7. High flow catalytic converter - Ebay.com - $30 A cheap cat is worthless. Get a quality cat (OEM quality) of the proper diameter. An OEM replacement cat for a car that comes boosted in stock form would probably be a good place to start.
                    8. Walbro 255 in-tank fuel pump - Highflowfuel.com - $80 Good.

                    9. H23a intake manifold and throttle body - Ebay.com - $130 Good... though you can get it cheaper than that.
                    10. Piston rings - UNDECIDED As said, rings AND pistons... and therefore forged rods. For a low-power turbo setup, you can get budget parts... but don't run cast aluminum pistons unless you like tearing down the engine and rebuilding it every few months...

                    11. Crank and Rod bearing - UNDECIDED Honda. Anything that doesn't require a "performance upgrade" should ALWAYS be OEM.

                    12. DSM 16g turbo, wastegate, manifold - DNAMotoring.com - $440 If you're going to spend that much, you could techincally look at any number of quality turbos... Most people just choose to go DSM because it's the cheap option. Also, the 16G was never a "DSM" turbo. It came on the Evo, which was not a US-market vehicle... and was not co-developed by Chrysler (which is what DSM was, a joint venture between Mitsubishi and Chrysler). The only real DSM turbo we can use is the 14b, which is sufficient for a modest built, honestly.

                    13. DSM 1st gen 450cc Injectors - remanufactored - injectorwhse.com - $144
                    14. 3" universal fmic piping - Ebay.com - $250 Again, for the price, you could potentially get something better than reconditioned old stock parts. Still, you're on the right track. Much better than getting some crusty old junkyard injectors and slapping them in!
And holy crap man... spellcheck! Firefox will even do it for you! People will take you much more seriously if every other word isn't misspelled.

I think his intentions are to follow through, so I expect it to become a build thread... it's not his intentions that made me move it, but the fact that it's whore-fodder. Technically, "nice build bro!" IS an appropriate response to this thread! At least here someone can say that and not get post-count credit for it.

When it moves to the big boy section, all posts will count (and all noob-whoring will be deleted)

My intentions ARE to follow through, I make a good enough living to make it happen, not just another "noob" that talks about how much he wishes to have a boosted vehice. I don't know if you're referencing me when you talk of noob-whoring, but that was not my intention, I couldn't care much less about my post count. If you look at my few posts, each one was either me responding to somebody posting info on my thread or trying to be helpful about topics I've already researched.
I understand why you moved it because I've belonged to a forum for every car I've owned and I know about the forum whores. But again that isn't my intention and it wouldn't bother me if my post count were put on permanent hold. Not a big deal.

Now back on topic. Thank you for the info on my current parts list. I will take your info into deep consideration.

No, I was not referring to you (I did try to make that clear). But a build thread like this will attract others who have nothing useful to contribute. No advice to give, or questions to ask. Just a comment on your plans. Moving the thread to OT is easier than deleting every unnecessary reply.

Just performed a compression test today. Got 170 accross the board!! Super excited about that because this thing has such high mileage. (259,000). For those of you who don't know with the f22 you want to see between 160-180. I believe your numbers should be within 10% of eachother. (Correct me if I'm wrong) Anyhow my H23 Intake manifold is here as well, so I will probably go ahead and put that on this upcoming weekend. Perhaps I'll post some pictures of the swap as I go along.
