ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

How much did your h22 swap cost?

From a shop..or ur own DIY? I'm tryin to get numbers..I mite end up taking it to a shop

    #2
A shop will charge you an immense amount of money and will likely get many things wrong. Ask Deev. With a few hand tools, the sticky guides on here and a well-planned out arsenal of parts you should be able to tackle it with a friend. The only way I'd consider paying a shop to do a swap is if I lived in an apartment. I happen to live in an apartment, but my CB stays a couple of hours away at my parent's house.

This is just my opinion and by no means is it correct but once you start paying a shop to do the things that "enthusiasts" do, are you really an enthusiast? A great deal of my why I own an older car is because I like reaping the benefits of doing my own work.
My Members' Ride Thread - It's a marathon build, not a sprint. But keep me honest on the update frequency!

I wouldn't necessarily call a swap "Easy" by any means. Besides most warranties with imported engines are contingent on the installation being done by a professional. If he gets something wrong and his investment blows up in his face, he's on his own. Have a shop do it, and the labor as well as the product should be guaranteed.

But to answer his question in a more straightforward fashion....

I paid about 750 shipped for my H22.
      Another 800 for installation.
Pumps, Belts, Etc were about 400 installed.
The wiring of VTEC was 100.
The ECU which wasn't included was another 100.
Exhaust work to weld my exhaust and the header together was about 125.

Now I did a 5Spd Swap at the same time so there were alot more other charges but that was about what I paid for for the engine installation itself. I would recommend having 2500-3000 prepared if you do have a professional shop do it for you.

Joey how much total was your's with 5 speed swap? I'm planning on doing this next summer (JDM H22 w/ 5 speed swap). To the OP lot of shops down here say $1500 with everything installed. But you usually get a 200k+ mile engine & only a start up warranty. Buy the stuff yourself then just pay for install with a warranty on the installation.

$2400 shipped for the swap from hmotorsonline.com (the ONLY place I would ever trust for a used Honda engine.)
          $1750 for installation.
They did a shitty job of it.

Joey is right. The warranty will be void if the swap is not performed by a professional, and all necessary parts replaced.

My transmission was 250, but it was out of a Prelude S(F22A), I want to turbo so I want longer gears for my setup.
My clutch and flywheel were about 500 together, (performance parts).
I cut into the frame and rewelded the transmission mount for installation so that was about 600.
Shift linkage, cables, shifter, etc were probably about 200

Mine didn't wire up VTEC properly, and the ECU was fried. It was only til I was trying to fix an electrical issue that a buddy told me VTEC wasn't kicking in(I wasn't familiar with the sound). I still beat Mustang GT foxbodys and the like with no VTEC though.

I recommend doing it yourself. You'll save hundreds of $$, and also have piece of mind that its done right. I don't know about you, but the last place I'd want my 3000$ swap is in the hands of a complete stranger, thats just in it for the cash! I'm about 90% done with my h swap, and before I started it, I had no experience under the hood except for changing oil and plugs and stuff. I guarantee you'll be able to find every bit of information needed on this forum. Its ALL been covered over the years. As long as you have an engine hoist(my uncle loaned me his) and some tools, The swap honestly isn't hard, as long as your very interested/dedicated to getting it done. I'd probably be sitting with a bone stock cb7 if it weren't for this site! Anyone can do anything as long as its what theyer truly interested in. But if you just want the power, and don't really care how its made or what goes into it, then you'll probably have a hard time with the swap.

For parts I spent about 300 bucks

I received my JDM H22 from my brother as a gift so it was free lol

but the most I spent was about 600 in buying tools because I had none lol

Although I wish I had a shop do it , I received a greater knowledge about the cb than I would have if I had the shop do it. So in a nostalgic sense, it was worth it .

If you're concerned about the startup warranty, then doing it yourself is not an option, unless you are a certified mechanic. However, if voiding the warranty isn't a big deal (getting the engine from a reputable source, such as hmotorsonline.com, will greatly increase your chances of getting a good one) then doing it yourself is indeed the BEST way to learn all about your engine and engine bay, inside and out. By the time you complete your swap, you'll know a hell of a lot more about your car than you did going into it.

Especially if you continually ask one simple question (and answer it...): "Why?"
Ask why everything is the way it is, what the purpose of everything is... and you'll be amazed how quickly you become an expert on the CB7.

Well I bought my swap directly from Steve at HMO, and asked him about my warranty, and he said I can do the required warranty maintenance myself. And its just the timing set, plugs and wires. I don't remember about cap and rotor. He never said anything about having to get it done at a shop, I don't wanna void my warranty

I think it says so on the written warranty... but Steve may work with you otherwise. he's a really cool dude, and he works his ass off to take care of his customers.
