ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

noob to cb7 and hondas in general

Hey all, the name is Marshall but I go by Uncle Tony online. I am one of the co-founders of Low Budget Dreams Car Club in Dallas TX. I normally rock Toyota Corollas, as I own 2 at the moment, a 07 CE for daily duties and an 82 liftback that is awaiting work so it can get rolling again.

The reason I am signing up here, is that my gf just got herself a CB7, (92) and I wanted to learn more about em. We bought it already lowered and needing a bit of tlc but for the price and mileage it is alright. As we picked it up Friday night it had just over 133k on the odo.

    And here it is:

yes we know the wheels suck and are mismatched... all will get fixed within the next couple weeks.

Here are the 82 and 07 in case you were wondering:

I hope to learn a bit here. Thanks for viewing.

If the CB is lowered, be sure to check on all your suspension components. People tend to cheap out when it comes to this.
    Ball Joints
    Tie-Rods
    Springs, Shocks (strut assembly)

Make sure it is not just riding on stock springs that have been cut, as that can be very dangerous.

Good luck with your new Honda! I think, being a toyota guy, you will get sucked in to all the Hondafun, just like the rest of us!

(Don't worry, CB7tuner members are here to make the transition painless)

awesome. thanks for the warm welcome. I will definitely check on all that. I also need to get window motors for both front doors, new weather stripping for the front doors and the sunroof, a muffler of some sort, ac, since it has been removed, and a drivers side mirror that is broken. Wheels will be ordered this week, but I think I will keep em a secret until they are on the car.

In the couple days we have had it, I am very impressed with it already. It gets great gas mileage and even lowered rides pretty nicely. I also like that since it is the F22, it has a very nice pickup and acceleration point, much better than the 9th gen Corolla's 1.8l

The F22 is a good low-end torque motor, and this equates to good acceleration/passing power and gas mileage.

The extra .4L may not seem like much, until you are passing people on the Hi-way without having to go past 3000rpm!

Is this car going to be a DD, or performance fun? The platform you have is good for both.

it will be her daily and toy for now. I need to get my 82 running for my fun car, and once paid off the 07 will be gone, bc I hate the car. Then I will look for another older Corolla to dd or maybe a cb wagon... we will see. I also want an older Toyota truck to 4x4 mud in.

lots of plans, little budget.... hence the club name

What do you dislike about the 07 Corolla? Everyone that I know who has a Corolla really like them.

But, I know a Corolla is a compact car, so you will get compact car performance and handling. Sometimes you just have to move up to full-size...

I have owned 5 Corollas, in order 87, 92, 80, 07, and the 82... as they get newer, the personalities disappear and they become just the plastic and crappy throw away cars that I cant stand, like caviliers and escorts/foci are. I have owned 15 cars, from vws to toyotas, kias and a couple gms and a ford. the 9th gen Corollas are by far the worst car for anything more than being a daily I have ever driven. on the highway they get blown where ever the wind goes with no manners of what they were. even the carb'd 87 4 door I had was more confident, and it was my first car, bought by my mother in 87 for her and given to me when I was 16 and it had 108k on her. it was a lethargic car then, but when in hs and college it was a great commuter. Maybe I am just too picky but when I would rather my 01 kia rio over the 07 corolla, there is a problem. My favorite is still the 80 Corolla I had... it was set for drift by the previous owners and it was great to throw sideways

thanks, we are pretty happy with it too.

Well, the Starter gave out on us, the trans leaks at the pan plug and both are getting repaired tonight along with the broken driver side mirror. Wheels were ordered today and should be in tomorrow and once we get tires they will be on this weekend most probably.

the reason for wheels, 3 konigs in 14" wearing either 185/60 or 185/65 and then the Honda alloy in 15" wearing 195/60...time to get it straightened out.

                    Keep that Accord looking nice!

I'm sorry to hear that about the Corolla. Do you thing Toyota cheaped out or just tried to build a bigger car on a small platform... ?

I am glad that you, being a Toyota guy, are able to recognize when a car is not up to par. This is in contrast to being bias towards your favorite car. That is worthy of a thumbs up.

For your first Honda, you made a good choice by not buying a civic!

its funny you mention the civic, lol. we were looking at civic hatches and coupes, corollas, camrys, vws and accords... only older cars 80s-90s I would trust for my gf as a first car. the accord we got just ended up being a deal.

yeah, when a car isnt what it should be I get kinda tired of it quick...

So, its not an idle air issue causing the surge.... problem is the inner valve cover gasket went bad/ is blown. 2 of the plugs and wires are swimming in oil. Tomorrow will be tune up time, as in new gaskets, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Also, wheels are on the car. Pics tomorrow since I will need to get some pics, but the gf wanted Enkei T-Forks, in stock sized 15x6.5 with 195-60 tires. the car now though is having an overheating issue, but I'm thinking that it is just another small issue... for what we paid for the car, and with the little we have done to the car, I am still completely happy with it, and find it to be quite fun. Stay tuned, more updates will be added.

your lower spark plug tube seals are leaking. You'll have to remove the rocker arm assembly to get access to them. I would recommend getting ONLY Honda OEM seals, they're only 3 bucks a piece from the dealer and will last. You'll quickly find out how well Honda OEM parts are engineered vs. the cheap aftermarket parts found in parts stores.

thanks... new gaskets are on, new plugs and wires, cap and rotor, running lots better. Still needs a timing belt change, and a radiator flush.

the car was overheating due to low coolant, my bad. I will be watching it more often. As we repair all the little things we are finding more stuff needed. But, it is a 92 that wasnt taken care of very well. It has low mileage and once all the little things are fixed, the car will be like brand new, so I am not worried. I need to get this finished so I can get back to my 82 Rolla, or at least get started on it, lol.

And yes, I still owe pics of the new wheels on the car, but havent had a minute to blast off any god pics. I will try to today, but no promises. If you want to look em up, they are Enkie T-Forks and look amazing on the car.

Enough for now, life is calling, type at yall later.
