Actually, the main causes for kidney stones are calcium, phosphorous, and caffeine.

Kidney stones most often consist of either calcium (most common) or phosphorous. Caffeine is a diuretic, and causes water to pass through the kidneys faster than it naturally would. If you do not stay hydrated while consuming caffeine, the kidneys won't function properly, and kidney stones will occur.

Now, Monster Energy drinks (the non-coffee and non-tea varieties) have NO phosphorous in them. Dr Pepper does. Both contain caffeine, though Monster has about 3x as much by volume. Neither contain calcium.

You're more likely to get a kidney stone with Dr Pepper than you are with Monster, as long as you aren't relying on the Monster as a sole source of daily hydration.

I actually knew someone in highschool that would drink a 2 liter of Mountain Dew before having unprotected sex, thinking he wouldn't get his girlfriend pregnant. Amazingly, as far as I know he never did get her pregnant... so either he was lying, or (hopefully) the dumbass was sterile!
