ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

We have no idea what you're talking about...

      but if they're super-cheap no-name coilovers... fail.

DO NOT cheap out on your suspension. Do it right, or you will greatly increase the risk of crashing. If you still live in brooklyn, then you're much too close to me for me for that... I don't want you losing control of your car and hitting me!

Use quality components. Springs and shocks should always be new, and they should always be properly matched to each other... DO NOT lower your car on cheap springs and stock shocks. That's one of the dumbest things you can do.

I just got coilovers for my car, only gonna do 1.5"-2" drop on it, and then when i have more money saved up i'll do a proper suspension swap, would the coilovers be ok for the 1.5"-2" drop?

Something that "works" on four generations of a car, I would not trust.
            3rd gen - 2,542 lb (1,153 kg)
            4th gen - 2,728 lb (1,237 kg)
            5th gen - 2,855 lb (1,295 kg)
            6th gen - 2,990 lb (1,356 kg)

Maybe if they all weighed the same and many other variables maybe it would be ok.
            wat?

              Cheap ones? Stock shocks? No.

The spring rates are too high. The stock shocks aren't made for anything but stock springs, and they're already old enough to drink.

My car is dropped 2", and I've already blown NEW quality brand shocks that weren't designed for that drop! If you can't afford to do it right, do something else. Your suspension is one thing you DO NOT want to mess with. Your life rides on that. If your suspension is halfassed, your car won't handle or brake predictably... and you or someone else (like a child that unexpectedly darts out in front of your car) may pay with their life.

We'll tell you if you're being an idiot... but MOST of us will tell you how to do it the right way at the same time.

Basically, if you're dealing with suspension, brakes, or tires... Don't go cheap. Get high quality parts.

This list isn't everything, but you can't go wrong with these parts:

                  Springs:
                  Neuspeed
                  H&R
                  Tein
                  Eibach

                  Shocks:
                  Koni
                  Bilstein
(to a lesser degree, KYB and Tokico... but most of their offerings are not compatible with the majority of available lowering springs.)

                  Coilover Sleeves:
                  Ground Control
(Skunk2 and Megan Racing are common, but IMO they are poorly made, and not specifically engineered for our cars. I'd stay away.)
Personally, I don't like coilover sleeves unless you really know what you're doing, and have a use for them. Leave the height adjustment to the engineers that designed a spring.

                  Full coilovers:
                  Tein
Function & Form Autolife (commonly referred to as "F&F")
There are lots of popular full coilovers on the market that I personally do not like... such as D2, K-sport, etc... They are poorly made, and offer race-style performance, not very well suited to a street car.

                  Camber kits:
                  Ingalls
                  SPC.
I would never trust ANY other brand (the TASauto kit i mentioned comes with an Ingalls kit installed. I have previously tried a cheap "Dropzone" kit... and it broke. Nearly killed me.)

                  Tires:
Stay away from anything significantly cheaper than the names you know. A good gauge is to find the cheapest, cheesiest wheel site you can find, and see what tires come with their cheapest "bundle" deals. Brands like Wanli, Nankang, and Ling Long will be prominent...
Brands I like personally: Dunlop, BF Goodrich, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Nitto, Pirelli. I'm not a fan of Kumho, and the last set of Yokohamas I got disappointed me. They're both respected brands, though.

                  Brakes:
Brembo rotors. Powerslot is decent, but not necessary. You don't need anything slotted or drilled.
Pads, just go with OEM Honda if you're not racing. They'll perform properly, and they won't destroy your rotors. If you're racing, look into Hawk, EBC, AEM, Brembo... there are lots of quality brake pad manufacturers.

And yeah... wow... just saw the link.

The 86-89 Accord has VERY different suspension requirements than the 90-97 design. The simple fact that it's advertised as being for 86-02 is seriously disturbing!

do it right do a 2.25 drop nothing crazy because latter it will sag to like 2.36 at the most once its settled in. But get good struts and good springs. nothing worse than riding around in a car with some shitty spring rates. If im not comfortable driving in a car that can hold its oww,I wont even get in it.
