ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

How much for an engine swap..?

I Finally found someone that will do an engine swap for me but i havent been quoted for the labor,I would love to do it myself but i don't have the tools nor am i mechanically inclined to do so myself. Anyway i would like to know what would be a general price for just the labor of course i still have to buy an H22A but just want to see what I'm looking a all together. And on a side note he's says an H23 would be better haven really done he research on that engine yet but just wanna know how favorable is it in our cb's , I'm also not sure if his guy has any real knowledge of our cb's he's more into civic and other Honda's so
......oh and another question i have an 90 Auto so should i just by another cb that is manual already or just put an h22 using my f22a tranny , I'm not sure that i'd wanna have to change my current cb from auto to manual more parts and labor and not enough cash

A h22a is a much better engine for a swap into a cb IMO. Prolly around 800 bucks in labor. And I would recommend getting another cb that is 5 speed to do the swap, you will appreciate that motor alot better on a 5 speed. And prolly around anywhere from 800-1500 for a h22a

When I was working as a mechanic I was charging people 8 hours ($80/hr) for a straight engine swap. Not every place/person will charge the same though

swap should be no more than 500 tops for labor ....the h22 is better. get the complete swap.

            Swap?

You can convert your auto to a manual. There are motor mount kits made by a few companies. Labor is about 80 an hour. Your motor...? depends on what ytou want and where from. Do your research on the parts and labor, CB7Tuners is a great place for the inspiration. I personally like swapshopracing.com and Hmotoronline.com

80 an hour is what many shops charge for general mechanical work. Something custom may cost more. Many shops might not be willing to do it, also. I had a very difficult time finding one that would. When I finally did, it took them 2 weeks and cost me $1750 for labor (and misc. parts used inthe swap...) They didn't replace my timing belt or hook up my AC, even.

Shop carefully. You would be MUCH better off doing it yourself if you have the time and a place to work.

since you said your not mechanically inclined, if i was in your position i would try to meet people who have the tools and knowledge to do swaps. so therefore you save money and you learn a little something from the person swapping your motor!

Even someone that isn't mechanically inclined can do a swap. It just takes longer. All you have to do is read... a lot. It's actually quite simple. It's a lot to learn and a lot to do, but if the space and time are available to do it, it's a VERY valuable learning experience. Most people I know that did their own swaps as beginners are now regarded as experts (our own moderator cp[mike] being one of them... I remember meeting Mike when he knew almost nothing... now his knowledge puts me to shame!)

A good H22a is going to be expensive. You can search for an USDM H22a4 or H22a1 in a junk yard for cheaper. JDM engines will be lower mileage and generally better. The best thing to do is plan out what you want to do and build a budget on excel. Looking a numbers on a spreadsheet gives you a different perspective on the total cost of the swap.

I did that. Well, not excel, but I came up with the figures and spent weeks figuring out my budget.
