ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

If you want to go cheap, find some used H&R or Neuspeed springs (there are other good brands... these are just my favorite) and some brand new KYB GR2 shocks. The GR2s are stock replacement, but they'll be a hell of a lot better than your 18 year old shocks.

If you're limited on cash, either save up a little longer, or modify something else. The suspension is the dumbest thing to cheap out on. Your life is riding on that! (I've been around here long enough to see my members learn this the hard way... some of them ended up on their roof... thankfully, all have walked away, so far)

    has it sunk in yet?

DO NOT cheap out on your suspension. ebay is NOT the best place to buy suspension parts from. if your buying brand name stuff like Function/Form Type Ones or Type Twos, ok. but its best to buy from the site that mainly sells them. sure you may spend a few bucks more but you always have a warrantee. that way you can contact the company DIRECTLY to get something fixed instead of having to wait for an email from the company on ebay or paypal.

if your going to lower your suspension, put in the budget for some new struts. KYBs GR-2s are good. they may be stock replacements but they're better than your 18yr old struts. if you plan on SLAMMING your CB, Koni Yellows are a good choice. they have been proven time and time again to withstand the abuse the struts go thru with being slammed. check out Honda-Tech on their slammed thread. most if not all the guys up there are running Koni Yellow/Ground Control coilovers or Function/Form FULL coilovers.

PLEASE take this into consideration. seeing "ebay coilovers or ebay lowering springs" thread EVERY DAY is annoying and stupid. LOOK AROUND AROUND 1ST!!!!

thank you for your time. mods if i am wrong for posting this, let me know or delete it

ninja edit: those coilovers or lowering springs your find on craigslist? if they're not brand name and the owner wants $80 or below for them, they're ebay. DO NOT buy them.

This man speaks the truth. Once upon a time, I made the mistake of running ebay parts on my old Civic hatch. It rode like shit, and the ebay camber kit destroyed itself and I wrecked the car because I lost control. I'm lucky to be alive.

I've taken great care in restoring the suspension on my CB properly. Everything is OEM or quality aftermarket. OEM balljoints, OEM tie-rods, full ES front bushing kit. I'll say this, even on stock shocks/springs, this car rides very nice. I'm currently saving up for the Neuspeed Cup Kit. It seems to be the best (reliable) bang for the buck, and lots of people recommend it on here.

Where's that quote from Tn_wagon where he says something about if you cheap out or cut factory springs, your car will roll over and catch fire.

This is true people! Dont buy JUST springs either. These are 16-19yr old cars, new springs will beat the old struts, so you might as well buy new struts while youre at it.

Also, dont overlook bushings, tie rod ends, linkage, ball joints and control arms.

proof that a proper suspension needs to be installed. not just the cheapest thing you can find. its ok to find something like H&R sports or Eibachs for like $100 or less, but if its just some no name lowering springs/coilovers, no.

it probably wont. thats the crappy part about it. everyone will try to cheap out as much as possible to do everything as fast as possbile.

lol. i read that quote all the time. i just cant remember who has it. lol.

and i just ordered some UCAs and UCA bushings a couple of days ago with some new upper ball joints. ill be replacing the lower ball joints soon too. people have to realize. your not just modding a car. your modding a 16-18 yr old car that probably was only used as a DD and never well taken care of.

Back in the day, when the 1987 Honda CRX Si was Honda to have if you wanted to race a Honda, we used to trim springs in the rear 'cause there were no springs on the market for the CRX. I remember soooo many sweet looking rides ended up on their roofs and wrapped around telephone poles. It seemed to always be a receipe for disaster: cut springs + speed. The only guys that got away with it were those guys that slammed their Toyota pick-up trucks (and painted the wheel wells neon green), 'cause they did not drive fast.

I you love your car, you will not go cheap on the suspension, otherwise you are just modifying your metal Honda coffin.

I had a cheap camber kit break on me as well. It was a Dropzone anchor bolt style kit, and one side broke completely. The other side was barely holding on by the time I got it home. It happened on the highway, at rush hour, going about 65mph. Had that other side given out, I'd have been in a serious accident, hurting or killing myself and anyone in my path (I was in the center lane of 3 at the time as well).

                              Wow.

Cotter pins are so incredibly cheap! I've re-used them, which is also a bad idea... though they don't bear any weight. They only keep the castle nuts from turning.

That's the thing... I give advice from experience. I've DONE all the stupid shit. I hand-tightened a lower ball joint nut just to get an engineless shell back on the ground. I put my girlfriend in the car to steer it, and pushed it a few feet. Thankfully, it only needed to go a few feet... because the joint popped out. I've seen firsthand what a busted ball joint will do... and I was lucky enough not to be driving the car at the time! Even then, my girlfriend nearly shat herself when it broke and jerked the wheel out of her hands!
