ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Why?!

Why does it cost so much to have two pieces of metal pressed together with a machine?

i need a wheel bearing and a hub pressed together for my ROH conversion and everyone seems to want to rape me in the butt to have it done.. 80 bucks.. $45 per side.. geez. for that kind of price i'm in the wrong line of work.

maybe i ought to go buy one at Harbor Freight, use it and then return it?

I do not know if I am correct, because I have not taken off the rotor or bearings on my cb yet (I will also be doing the ROH conversion as well later on in the future), but I have put bearings put on other cars by just using a hammer and a thick peace of wood to get them in.

I used a rubber mallet and a piece of wood. Basically you just need to make sure the the blowing force is not going directly in to the bearing. Also remember to grease up the mating surfaces, it will make it go much easier.

yeah that's what i did was use a block of wood and a rubber mallet. a few good blows and it mated good.

my ass won't be hurting from paying out the yin yang to put something together.

now to get the old bearings off..

$45 per side would be $90.

I was going to say something witty about how most of us could figure that out...then I realized that 3/4th of this forum probably couldn't...

Sounds like you bought new bearings and hubs. You have it easy. Just follow the DIY for replacing the rotors and you'll be good.

yeah i bought all new stuff. None of the yards around here have newer cars like the '98 CLs.

what i meant to say about the price was that one place wanted 40 bucks per side and another place wanted as much 90 per side... saved a crap load of money by using a 99 cent rubber mallet and a block of wood from the backyard.

well i'm gonna go to bed now, just got back from watching Gamer and my neck pain is returning.

Rotor Over Hub. You don't have to, but it makes changing your rotors a breeze. All you do is remove your wheel, remove like 2 screws that hold the rotor onto the hub and remove and replace the rotor.

There's no pressing out or in of any hubs and no need to take your suspension apart, like you do on the original brake setup.

I'm looking to buy a press...look around, you don't have to spend a shit load on one, and you don't need a ginormous one either.

Shop around, you'll find big differences among the same rating of press.

If you ever plan to replace bushings, to ball joints...etc...a press will help. Not always needed...but it makes it damn easier.

You can rebuild a manual tranny too

The best thing to do is CALL around. Usually, they'll give you a better deal than a walk-in customer.

If anything, search Craigslist for a press. I'm sure you can find one for cheaper than 80 bucks!
