MKIII Jetta VR6 Opinions!!!

LOL Yea man well i do like them and i do work on them with my buddies i woulld sure like to get one and boost the VR6 like a project. Were your jettas 5speed?

it seems almost everyone thats posted is against this jetta..

but its all on you man if you want it im sure you can work with it and make it nice it very well could be a project...

but ive had 2 jettas.. a 94 and a 95 . both trannys went out and i always had at least one of the dashboards taken out... and torn apart..

there fun cars though i like em i just didnt like workin on it.. lol

ok i've had a 93 jetta 2.slow it was a good car to me, had alot of suspension work into it not much motor. wife had a 02 passat and 04 which were both good to her, i had another 00 jetta i loved that car. Also had 3 old beetles i liked them all but they were money pits for sure.


If you go on vortex you will find they do have their downfalls like all models do. I just hated the price tag of working on them, that's why i keep going back to honda. I think this time i learned my lesson for good though.

Well seems like you had quite the Volkswagen scene. Yea the one thing i dont like is how the maintance is so expensive comparing to my CB maintance.

Well ive only had two but never got to fix them-up! But i do want one but il be getting a VR6 for sure. But the one thing i didnt like was the way the tranny is reverse you got to push it down and shift to the left! How did you feel about the shifting?

it's weird getting used to not doing it, you look back behind you to go backwards and you're in 1st gear. The thing i hated the most asides from the expenses was the snobbery scene and the creaky interior

Yah, the VW scene is extremely snobby... There aren't many VWs around here that don't obviously have a ton of money put into them, but still... VW guys act like they're so much better than Honda guys... they're still FWD platforms, and a Honda can take just as much boost as a VW if tuned right! Honda guys are generally just... cheaper.

LOL i have that same problem but with nissan guys. They think that there better and what not and also because there RWD but idk if its just me but honestly Honda/Acura will always be the BEST Japanese maker in cars. Its just the reliability that says it all. I had a 240sx 2.4 SOHC with 174k never beaten hard it was owned by a old guy and when i got it the engine would shake at idle and he had all the receipts of maintance done. i have my 92 CB 5speed with 274k original miles and runs like brand new. I traded the 240 for a CD5 auto because it was cleared in my mind that honda truly is the best. HONDA- "THE POWER OF DREAMS"!

WOW. I personaly like the interior its nice but yea the tranny was my most dislike part about it. But me im a FWD guy always!FWD-FTW!!!I didnt even feel comfortable driving the s13 i had.

vw's suck, everytime some comes in with a weird looking part for their car, we already know its a vw, and usually we dont have it, they be like "we have been to all the part stores and no one has it" or if we do have it, it can only be used on vws so its expensive, i think spark plug wires for a vr6 are like 100+ or so, and you can mess the engine up if you take the plugs out the wrong way,

yo dude dont get into all the hipe man, european cars are excellent, when it comes to performance, but when it comes to maintenace and reliability-- they are horrendous,

some japanese cars perform better than them and are still cheaper to fix,
i had a co-worker that was into nothing but vws and his dad was the owner of the company, so you know he had money, so if you are going to get one just get your wallet ready too

ive put like 4 engines in my accords this year, still same one in my vw, 2 axles in my accord. one in my vw.
maintence is more? i didnt realize oil cost more for a vw. change the timing belt/chain every 80k miles or so keep oil in it and its just as reliable as a stupid honda. if you get a 96+ get vag-com best software ever.

As stated before, MKIIIs have big electrical problems. My sisters will just shut off randomly... also her interior lights "pulse" at night.

Something else ive seen on those is the tail lights will sometimes just not work. ive seen it on my sisters jetta and one going down the road.

The brake lights and head lights work fine, but at night with no tail lights, they are really hard to see!

I owned a 02 GTI 1.8T and a buddy of mine has had a 01 GTI VR6 and a 01 Jetta 2.0....thay all SUCKED BALLS!!! Mine was new off the lot and was in the shop 5 times within a year of owning it, not really any drivetrain problems but had major electrical issues, same with my buddies, electrical problems all the time. I wouldn't do it...

I will never forgive myself for getting rid of 2 Hondas I had to buy that POS VW...

Why not just buy a newer Accord???
