I was just wondering cause the Honda dealership near me has this new thing called a Transmission Flush! Its 199.99. I was just curious as to what they do and if i could do it myself. They said it makes a world of difference cause they flush out the converter also instead of just the tranny. PEACE

If you have neglected regular oil changes and you want to do some interior engine cleaning, get the oil and filter changed and replace one quart of motor oil for one quart of transmission fluid. The transmission fluid has a high detergent content that will clean the engine without damaging it. Do this every 3,000 miles and you will clean the inside of the engine slowly and gently.

ok guys the whole trans flush refers drain every quart of oil from the transmission without having to open up anything, and yes it is dangerous specially to those of us whom have never done it before. when you flush a transmission you are removing every bit of material inside, which in some cases might be the only thing keeping friction happening and keeping slippage from happening. transmission fluids are very high on detergents which have been known to clean deposits which at high mileage are helpful to our fatigued engines. and about the trans fluid in engine , that method has been used often before to clean engines mostly on carb engines, although you can get the same effect from changing oil regularly. and last but not least importantIF YOUR ENGINE HAS HIGH MILEAGE ON IT PLEASE DON"T POUR TRANS FLUID OR CARB DEPOSIT CLEANER AS IT MIGHT ALSO BREAK UP BUILDUP AROUND VALVES AND RINGS THAT MIGHT BE THE REASON WHY THE CAR STILL HAS SOMEWHAT GOOD COMPRESSION. I HOPE I WAS HELPFULL

I agree completly, after a trans gets about 60-100 k on it the fluid in it basically becomes part of it and needs to stay there. I have done alot of PM work on fleet vehicles and have seen this happen first hand.

200 bucks is crazy for one,unless you have a CVT in your car. Older models use regular ATF 3 fluid
If you are not haveing any problems with your trans you will not have a problem. Flushes are safe if you currently arent having problems and they can sometimes fix problems. The machine doesnt do anything it is a big can and it is all done by your trans pump on a 1 to 1 ratio it drains 1 qt into the waste side and puts 1 quart back in. Doesnt put any excess pressure in the system or "Power" Flush like a coolant machine which forces the thermostat open.
Yes it will replace the fluid in the torque converter.
I normally flush 12-15 quarts depending on the car to make sure I flush it till the fluid is clean

im no HONDA TECH but i go to a vocational school for automotive technology and tranny flushes are a REAL big help i would recommend having it done professionally (i use my tranny flush machine in my shop) you really notice a difference and i think 200 is way out of line for a tranny flush unless your getting an aftermarket filter as welltheres nothing like rollin out with your friends on a friday night in your baby and seein a perfect corner and you get that feeling like man i gotta rip that e-brake

I've never been an actual Honda Technician but I have worked for a few shops that did transmission flushes. The way we used to go about it was if your car was fairly new or had less than 100k miles on it then it would more than likely be ok to flush the trans. Once it got close 100k on it though we would stay away from it or at least tell the customer that we don't really recommend doing it but if they were dead set on it then we had no choice. We did this to an employees car after telling him not to because it could screw it up but he said he knew it would fix his problem so just do it. We did it anyways and found out the next day he made it about 5 miles down the road and then his trans went out. I don't know much about transmissions but from the work i've done and seen done on them I wouldn't do anything more than the drain and fill like recommended above. Hopefully this helped somewhat and you didn't waste your time reading all of it lol. Good luck.

Anyway thanks alot for all the replies. i wasnt about to spend 200 on this but was just a little more curious of what all it went into. He asked me how many miles i had on the car (189000) and he said it would def help out. He's prob. just tryin to sell the service but????? PEACE
