ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Purpose of a heater core?

Not sure where to place this, so Off-Topic is where it goes, even though it sorta is Technical.

What the hell is the purpose of a heater core? Reason I'm asking, is because I'm in the process of replacing mine. I got it out, and installed the new one this evening. Just have to put the dash back on tomorrow. (whoever said you can get to the heater core with only taking the glovebox off.....HAHAHAH, are you God himself? Impossible).

This thing runs off anti-freeze? 2 lines....in/out for Anti-freeze. What's this have to do with heat? Why'd it kill my heat? Doesn't make any sense to me.

If you want the cabin to be warm in the winter, you need a heater core.

It uses the hot engine coolant flowing through it to put hot air in the cabin.

its a radiator for the inside of your car. Hot water circulates through it. Its a part of your cooling system. Fans blow cold air through it and it heats the air through the process of conduction. The hot air then comes out your vent holes.

So, this is part of the coolant system, but isn't the coolant system used to cool the engine? I think that's the part I didn't understand.

So, with my heater core bein' bad, could it be the cause of my car overheating when it's 80-90 degrees with a thermostat in? (both fans runnin' on a toggle).

The cooling system is not aiming to cool the engine like you are thinking.

Friction of all the moving parts creates immense amounts of heat, the cooling system just regulates this temperature and keeps it around 250 degrees Fahrenheit or so.

If your car starts to overheat for some reason during the summer, you can turn the heat on full blast to take some of the heat out of the coolant to avoid damage to the engine.
