    Suggestion for clutch

I'm gearing up for my auto to 5spd swap and was looking for a suggestions on clutchs guys.

I've only got bolts ons, you know, SRI, Megan Header, and the WS2 exhaust with a cat so i'm not putting out a lot of power.

What i'm looking for is something that is decently priced, has some good gripping power, and should be able to withstand some abuse because i'm not the best at shifting.

I was on ebay looking for suggestions and I saw an Exedy OE replacement clutch kit that claims to be higher in spec compared to OEM. This kit came with a throwout bearing, should i avoid using that aftermarket one and go buy a Genuine Honda T/O bearing?

some of my Civic friends at work swear by ACT but those seem to be way out of my price.

sorry guys forgot to mention i still have my F22A1.

When i had to replace mine i went with the XTD Stage 3 off ebay, its not a name brand clutch, but i havent had any problems with it and preffer it over the OEM clutch. Its a good clutch for the money. But thats just my opinion.

I'm going with -91accord-, I had an XTD stage 2 clutch in my 240sx for about a year with no complaints. The guy I sold it to said it was the best feeling clutch on a 240sx that he'd ever felt. Most clutches for them are "mushy"... i guess. But, when I upgrade I'm going to get an XTD clutch for the CB.

Edit: Exedy clutches I've also heard are good, but I don't have any personal experience with them.

I had an XTD stage three in this 240sx it only lasted 10 months but i didn't take the time to properly break it in. now it has a stage 2 exedy which is round as opposed to the 6 puck design, it feels much smoother but I'm still trying to break it in.

I have the XTD Stage 3, and I wouldn't buy it again. It's holding up fine... and I drove quite a bit on it... but it's not a proper performance clutch. If you aren't making more power than a stock-ish H22A, don't bother getting a crazy performance clutch. Get Daikin or Exedy, and you'll be happy.

Cheapo performance clutches are like cheapo coilovers. They work... sort of... but not as they should!

my suggestion is just go OEM... go down to the local parts store and get a Zoom clutch kit. they work just as good and hold up..i have had them in all my cars and they get abused alot and they still grab good and the best thing is that if they go out I can go down to the local parts store and exchange them. just my two cents.

yeah i'm really leaning towards that Exedy OE replacement clutch because i figured if i'm not putting out a lot of power, something close to stock spec clutch should do me.

I did a search on that XTD stage 3 clutch and it seem like a lot of people liked that one over the stage OE like or the stage 2 but was still prone to failure.

For a "Stage 3", my XTD 6 puck clutch isn't much different from stock. For near stock performance, I'd rather have a quality near-stock clutch! Nobody can see the nifty 6 puck design anyway, so what does it matter?

XTD has some nasty press going around about their flexplates as well... people are saying that they're flimsier than stock, which is very bad. I haven't tested this myself, but it wouldn't surprise me.

spend it towards a oem exedy.

running 15k and the only difference is my pedal got a bit stiffer. must be from all those attmepts for burnouts and launching.

It won't hurt anything... but there'd be no point. You'd just decrease your driveabilty. You won't be any faster.

The more performance oriented clutches, just like performance brake pads (the clutch is very similar to a brake), will wear faster. Both the clutch material and the flywheel and pressure plate that it's digging into.

If you don't NEED a beefier clutch, don't get one.

i'm going to go ahead and get that Exedy OE clutch but that T/O bearing that offer, should i not use it and go for a Honda one?

i have used both types of T/O bearings and i can't tell the difference on the wear. Just whatever makes you feel good about then just go buy it.

well i just called that Gripforce company whos in california, and even though theres no name listed for the T/O bearing, it's at least made in Japan, he reassured me it wasn't some kind of lame generic bearing being used.

I guess if i can save like 40 bucks here and there, i can use it towards something else for the car.

In other words you have a lot of choices. I am using an xtd I am feeling it kinda slowly wearing on me. Feels like the pressure plate is going out on me and I have the xtd stage 3.
