This is my 92 Accord. She has about 320k miles on her and I am now looking into fixing her up. I have tons of questions but don't know if this is the place. Because of the emphasis on the rules, I don't want to start off on the wrong foot by asking them here. So for now, here are some pics


Its a sexy car, and I really dig the look, but my friends and family look at me like I'm crazy when I say I want to fix it up/ restore it, lol. I guess I see something different than they do.

Thanks! It actually needs a bath. Most of the blemishes are on the outside and when I paint it I think I want to go with that dark gray available on the new Fits (you can see my silverstorm metallic one in the background) and of course I want to get the pinstripes back.

The interior is mostly clean but the seats are starting to come apart and the carpet needs to be replaced - on the doors and everything. I am missing the entire trunk interior or whatever I have needs to be replaced. Tail lights are leaking through gaskets and I am going to try out a DIY I found on here to make my own replacements from parts from a fabrics store. Rest of it should come from pick-n-pull.

Also thinking about an engine swap, but I will post more details in the beginner performance forum.

Thanks guys! I actually created a thread in the performance area to ask a lot of engine questions. I asked my uncle and he said we could try and rebuild/tune up the f22a1 in there after winter: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=201777

The other things I have to look into is the weather stripping around the doors because I hear wind when I am driving on the highway. There are also small leaks here and there but I found a lot of good links for those to sort through before I go asking questions.

However, I am having a tough time finding walkthroughs for replacing the door stripping and other stuff. Honestly I haven't searched yet, so I will get more serious and probably ask in the appearance section if I can't find it with some searching.

U mean the rubber inside the door? The dealer has it. Should anyways.. if the rubber is to soft. Try the yard. If u pull the rubber u can see how its in. Like a hole and u work its way in.

my suggestion for the first mod is a 5 lug conversion that will enable you to expand your selection of available rims,and its not that hard

Welcome and this site is definitely for you. It will help you alot on whatever questions you may have about your car and others not even related to your car.

I am assuming you are starting off in life and not really cash rich as you have opted for a second hand (not brand new), really old (not just a couple of year old second hand car) and a japanese car at that (not european).

My real advise is to do the below list in order (with 1 being the highest priority)

1) Existing repairs - Going from major drivable related repairs to minor repairs. I would include missing or damaged parts in this (such as the missing hub caps, interior seat/trim replacements, missing rear trunk tools etc, bald tyre replacements etc).

2) Maintenance - Going from major preventative maintenance (such as timing belt changes, CV boot replacement if only torn, brake changes before it scrapes the rotors etc), to minor maintenance (such as engine oil, coolant, brake fluid flush and change, transmission fluid change etc).

3) Improvements - Includes modifications (such as the 5 lug change). This category is not needed in a tight budget like that of a student or casual worker.

Believe me keeping your car trouble free is better than a car that looks good and strands you or one that you cannot depend (getting you late for an interview, stressing out on exam week trying to get the car repaired, disappointing people like a girl friend on dates due to the car having problems etc.)

The temptation to make it look nice first and bragging items (even if its just blue headlights) sets you back on other more important items.

Keep it running dependably first then beautify it. Just my advise.

I am still young (26), married, and this is not my only car. My first car was an '84 300ZX that I got when I was 16 and I went the route you described - worrying about cosmetics before reliability. I am hell bent on going the other way you described and convinced that I can do it since this is not my daily driver. I have an '09 Honda Fit Sport 5spd as my daily and I can work on this one and not have to worry about being in the middle of a project or letting it sit for a bit if life intervenes.

The advice I got in the performance forum is telling me to try and rebuild the engine myself and look for a newer tranny to just replace the existing one. Those will be my first 2 major goals.

In the mean time, I plan to fix the taillight gaskets so I don't get any more water in the trunk!, buy a generic car cover from autozone/amazon, and start it up every 3-5 days. I'm not sure what starting it up does, but I don't think its any worse than just letting it sit.

Thanks again for the advice. And ya, rims can definitely wait. A guy I met at work with a cb7 also told me that was the first thing to do, and I was like, Nope! I can't wait until the big smile on my face that comes with knowing that it looks like it does right now on the outside but is purring like a kitten under the hood.
