ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Even removable things such as plastidip and vinyl can ruin paint in a fairly short time.

I like the idea of plastidip, and the results can be cool... but come on... a junkyard hood is $20. An aftermarket replacement hood is $50-$70. These cars are 20 years old, and finding one with good original paint is VERY difficult. It saddens me when someone takes a pristine CB7 and "modifies" it to the point of ruining such a well-preserved vehicle.

I agree with you 100% here. These cars are getting harder and harder to find in good shape. I know first hand, as my current CB is the complete opposite of well-preserved. In fact the term hack-job described much about the car when I first bought it. But I cannot complain with the price I paid for it. My old 92 on the other hand was in near-pristine condition and I tried very hard to preserve it. Now if the OP had busted out the sand paper and flat black dollar paint I would definitely be shaking my head.

This is honestly the first I have heard of this, so I am wondering if you could elaborate. I am nowhere near an expert on either. So I googled around out of my own curiosity and could not come up with any mention of harmful effects due to these products being used. The only thing I read was that if new paint has not been given enough time to cure, then the clear coat could be, and has been damaged by the application of vinyl and plasti dip. I have worked with a lot of vinyl in the past and the only ill effect that I have witnessed was the build up of dirt around the edges of vinyl decals. I found that hard to remove, but some good car polish did the trick.

The reason I am asking this is because if there is a chance of the paint being ruined I am sure everyone including the OP and myself would want to know. I have considered plasti-dipping a few parts and even body panels to temporarily cover up the poor condition of my paint until I can allot the time and money to do a complete paint job. I would certainly like to know before I carry on.

Love it! Gonna Dip mine sometime next year. It peels right off and it helps conserve the OEM paint.
