Painting interior black

Ok so i started doing my interior black. I dont like the red one my car has im doing dash side panels trim seat belts. The only thing are the seats i dont know if I should swap them at a salvage yard or just fnd some new seat covers. I will put some pictures up in a few hours.

as far as painting/recoloring your interior, take the time to do it right. Remove all the panels and disassemble them to their components. For example each door panel comes apart into 5-6 pieces plus the door handles. Also look into some vinyl/carpet dye like this

Does a really good, and really permanent job on all the cloth and vinyl portions, though still use regular paint on the plastic pieces. If you do a thorough enough job it ends up looking absolutely fantastic

if you dye the seats be careful because the dye can come off on clothing. I wish you luck on the seat belts as I soaked mine for a few days and they never took the dye. Any spot that see's frequent use like door handles and ohshit handles, will need to be touched up occasionally.

I was always told the bars in the door are refered to the ohshit handle and the bar in the ceiling is called the jesus bar. My car has both on all passenger spots for some reason

i think this can easily be resolved with quick look up in the FSM.

instead of dying the seat fabric just ask you local auto upholstery shop about how much it would cost to re upholster your seat's.

That's the proper method, but unless you buy the materials yourself it has the potential to cost a lot. On most peoples budgets, a can of $8 vinyl/fabric dye will work just fine, given you let it fully dry before installing and sitting on them

that's true, just make sure it drie's well before installation otherwise you could end up with a mess

No because on the soft cloth and vinyl it will crack. This duplicolor stuff literally just dries, not hard and crusty. Me and my brother dyed the vinyl back seat in my dads chevelle. Came out really nicely and doesn't transfer onto clothes either

well i just thought that u would at least use some clear coat on the dash b/c the uv from the sun ?

hmm at least i read this from anther forum ....

they said they put 3 coats of that paint u linked and 2 coats of non glossy clear

So I dye this with the product that is linked in this thread. but for the plastic trim, do I add a clear coat??

Yes its most likely vinyl, I think that was the standard trim unless you somehow got some rare leather option I've never heard of. You don't have to clear coat the plastic pieces, but it will help make your paint last longer and look nicer
