ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

3 out 4 speakers do not work!

Well simply put, the only speaker that produces sound in my car is the rear driver side speaker.
The other three sometimes (like 1 out of 10 times) produce sound for half a second then stop.
I read the other thread about speaker going in and out, so I poped off my door panel to check wires (cracked my door handle in the process >_>), the wires are all connected, insulated. So I'm guessin it is my head unit. What do you guys think?

my g/f has the same problem only it's her rear passenger one that works. and i know it's not her head unit cause i swapped in mine and it does the same thing so it's wiring some where thats messed up. i'll be watching this to see suggestions as well. my next step it to follow every speaker wire in the car to find a break somewhere

I will post pictures when I get the time to take some.

I doubt the speakers are shot because when they are working for that half of a second, the sound matches the music. I checked the back of the speaker, the soldering and wires look fine to me.
The chance of three speakers breaking at the same time is pretty rare I think.

If all three speakers come in and go out at the same time, that sounds more like your head unit than the wiring. If you can take it out, just run a continuity test on the wires that aren't working consistently.

exactly how do I perform the continuity test? with a voltmeter or something? I'm pretty new with stereo and stuff.

If you have a multimeter, set it to Ohms, and put one of the probes on each end of a particular wire. The needle will shoot all the way to the right (infinity) when the probes aren't touching anything, or if the circuit is broken. If the wire's not broken, it should read zero.

If you don't have a multimeter handy, grab a 9V battery and an LED or something and close the circuit the same way with those. If the LED lights up, your wiring's good.

well, this is kinda offtopic, my cb7 is actually bone stock, it is just not performing well, feels like it is a bootlegged car.

you can also use the 9volt battery to pulse the speakers
hook the + up to + and the - up to -
dont leave it on too long or it can damage your speakers

Do you have the OEM headunit as well? While the original speakers are showing their age, it still sounds like a HU problem.

Did you swap the speakers to see if the problem remained with the affected channel or if it moved to another one?
