ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Subs and Amp!

Just put in a new system! 2 10 JLs and a 1000 watt amp. The thing is the JLs need lots of power and so my AMP keeps over heating and like turns on and off. I have it placed rite behind the sub box. Where can I put it so the amp will atleast stay cool enough to not turn on and off anymore?

what kind of JL's...usually they only want 500 watts.

your amp may not be stable at like 2 ohms....depending on what each of those subs are ohms wise determins your power and how much power that amp can produce to the speakers.

is yourt amp a mono block? do you have a good ground...
how many RMS is the amp....the amp can be 2000 watts but only be about 200 watts rms per channel....its all a gimmick. you have to know the RMS to know if its right for the setup or not.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

yep...find out the RMS of the amp AND speakers. then how you have it configured is also part of the issue.

spell out that stuff and we can help.

sounds like you have the gain on the amp turned up to high which is causing extra heat which is trippin your amp in to thermal shut down mode/protection mode.

You could still be running the amp at a lower ohm than its stable at. 1 or 2 or 4 channel amp? and how are your wires run?
bridging your amp doesnt make it a certain ohm. the wiring of your subs is what determines that.

Check the impedance on your subs. If you're using two 4-ohm subs and they're wired in parallel, your amp will see it as a single 2-ohm load. If the amp is only rated for 4-ohm loads, you'll suck too much juice, and your amp will overheat and possibly blow the output stage. Then you'll have to either get it fixed or buy a new amp.

On a somewhat related note, collapsed voice coils really suck. When an amp rated for 4-ohms sees an effective 1-ohm load, the results aren't pretty.

changing the ohms will depend on the frequency on the bass and the quality

I dont see the relation or understand lol. you dont necesaraly change the ohms, you just reconfigure it in a way that the amp can run it. like if you had a dual 4 ohm sub, you can either do 2 ohm or 8 ohm, thus if u add one more you can bring it to either 1 ohm or 4 ohm.
