ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

does the amp turn off (as in NO POWER) or do the subs just cut out?

could just be that your alternator can't make as much power as you are using.....you'll get headlight dimming and subs cutting out as first signs
....and on the 7th day, deevergote rested and called his mom.

      Short ground wire is good

I would not suggest grounding it to the battery basically you want your ground wire as short as possible. I would make sure the amp is grounded a good place. Mine is grounded on the seatbelt bolt underneath the rear seat. Usually when this happens it is because the amplifier for some reason goes into safety mode. This can be caused by overheating, or the most likely scenario is that the voltage to your amp is dropping below the required amount and it turns off. I have seen this happen in many other vehicles but i have never had this problem with a cb7 (I have installed stereos in three different ones)

      A few questions...
      (1) How old is your battery and what kind is it?
      (2) How many ohms are you running your amp at?
      (3) What size of wires are you using for ground and power (to the amp)?
      (4) Have you ever replaced your alternator?

From my best guess without testing it i would say your alternator is going. Luckily they are fairly cheap and you can probably replace it yourself. Before buying one i would preform a check to see if it is going. You can do this with a voltmeter. I will look for an explanation thread on this site and post a link if i find one.

Alternatior test (sorry for the double post)

Apparently Auto Zone and other parts stores do this test for free now. So if you don't feel like doing it just run over there and ask them. As a side note their have been stories of Auto Zone and other places telling you your alternator/battery is bad then selling you one when yours was OK. I do not know because i have never had them do the test but you may want to get it done at two places just to be safe. That is if it is free...

                Wire the sub different...

Do you mean run it a higher ohms or what? I think thats what you are saying.
E.G. like changing it from bridged to using two channels?

                    Ohms

I think you mean upped the ohms, but yes that sounds correct otherwise.

Base boost is a nice feature. This being said people abuse it more then any other part of a system.

The correct way to use base boost is to tune the entire system with it on at no more then 5db (I tune mine at about 3db) then when it is all tuned you turn the base boost down to zero. You can then fine tune each song by adjusting the volume on the deck until you reach the maximum output for your limiting factor (for most people this is your ordinary speakers) when you hear distortion anywhere in the system stop!!!! Then fine tune the bass with the base boost again not going any further then 5db.

The entire point in tuning is to take all the parts of your system and turn them DOWN to the level of your limiting piece of equipment. (so if your subs are the best part of your system then you should not need to use any bass boost)

most of the time its cuz the amp is running too hot due to not having the matched up speakers, or the wiring for the amp isnt the proper gauge.

My amp does that. Ita all alpine audio, and i ABUSE IT! thats why mine turns off, Its not the wireing, not the settings, not the wrong ohms. I got it and set it up for one reason, to sound as good and as loud as possble. My cd player will turn off to. If you know you got it put in right, and you know that you got it set up right, you know what it may be? As hard as it may sound, sometimes it a easy a turning the volume know from 1000 db down to just 100 db. that makes less heat, and less overheating...

Whats the resistance you have in your set-up. Ex. 1-ohm 2-ohm 4-ohm.
