When I got a loud beat goin from my sub, it distorts my speakers up front. I have aftermarket speakers btw. My friend said a capacitator would fix that and the dimming of my lights but I'm not so sure. Maybe the dimming but I'm not sure about the distortion. Anything else I could do?

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Bass will not do anything to your front speakers. u must have your Lows on your radio up . you know how it goes from -6 to +6 (on most radios) you must have it on + something . that means bass going thru your door speakers espically if you have your speakers straight to the radio and not using a amp to power them up. lower your Lows and put your mid and Highs all the way up. put your lows to 0. and put your trebble to +4. or the highiest it goes. also put your Load on high. (am going if u have a pioneer radio) then u will be fine.
yes and use a cap for your diming light. cap is only used for high bass on a short period of time.the cap stores energy and releases it when the high bass comes out.

Capasitor helps alittle with dimming, getting a new alternator and battery would fix it completely. or go to a HID system. uses 35w and wont dim with your bass. Then again a heavy amp will draw enuf to actualy pull your RPMs down when idling. All a Cap does is act like a rechargable battery inline with your amp. It stores and discharges when the amp draws alot.... like when you song changes and there isnt any bass and all the sudden it hits hard. If your getting dimming with a constant bass and not just when you go from 3 or 4 second of no bass then bass all the sudden a cap isnt going to fix much your still not generating enuf amps to power your amp even with a cap you would still see dimming the cap would just make it less ovious. If this is the case GET A NEW ALTERNATOR AND GOOD BATTERY. there are some High output alternators on ebay for round 160 i think. That should cover it with ease.
Distortion in your front speakers is cause of 2 much bass going to them from your head unit.
Get better front speakers or turn UP your amp and turn DOWN your headunit's bass setting.
I run alot of accesorys. Alot of lights. And a Big amp and speakers. A new alternator and good quality battery helps alot.Last edited by Akira_kj; 09-16-2006, 05:28 AM.I cant Slam further. The ground refuses to get any lower.

the last person was the closest. all the other stuff is more advanced but to simply answer your question, you are putting out more from your headunit than it's meant to push. Turn your bass down on the headunit, or whatever 'loud' or 'superbass' mode it may have. If you need more from your sub then you may need a better amp. Distortion kills speakers, and distortion is from forcing an amp (headunit's amp or a separate amp) to push more than it's capable causing clipping of waves, which is death to speakers. If you HAVE to have everything louder, put your door and deck speakers on a good 4ch amp. Ask or research on good 4ch's. Any amp will usually put out more than a headunit...

It doesn't seem like power is the issue. I don't think providing more electricity via a battery, etc will help. What is your setup? Do you have separate amplifiers for the front and subs? Does your head unit have a crossover? It seems like the issue is improper management of frequencies to inappropriate speakers.
I think the capacitors that were mentioned in an earlier post were not the type used for voltage regulation, but are the type intended for frequecy filtering to high pass speakers. It is commonly used in audio of all sorts in the internal designs of 2 way or more speakers. You don't want bass going to the tweets, so you use a cap (using a chart to determine what size based upon voltage and desired filter level). If you don't want highs going to the sub, you use coils (again actual size depends). The caps that would be used as passive high pass filters for this application would be about the size of a double A battery.

...again too much bass on the front speakers. Most door speakers just do not produce enough bass for most people. And the midbass gets distorted if the volume or bass level is too high. I love my HU because I have a 3rd preout channel that enables me to turn up the bass without effecting the in car speakers. I usually set the bass to flat or sometimes -2 depending on music. This way I can hear the vocals with the windows open at 65mph clearly.

Well i dont want bass coming in through my front speakers. my setup is as follows:
2 Kicker 195 w front speakers (55 rms)
2 Alpine 250 w rear speakers (60 rms)
pioneer headunit
kicker L5 900 w sub
kicker amp 600.1
i cant figure out how to make it stop. ive listened to it, and it doesnt sound like im getting any bass from them, its just that when the bass is up real high in the trunk, my speakers start to distort everytime theres a heavy thud from the L5. its only noticable at high volumes or when my sub is turned up extra loud. i can turn my sub up without turning the actual HU volume up also blue93cb. ive gona all through my cd player looking for settings and shit like that. but cant find anything.
