ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Get a pair of Expencive 10s and use a amp about 50w lower max output than the speakers can handle. Put it in a bandpass box. Replace all your interior speakers with some name brand speakers and a headunit that is underpowered by about 5 to 10w each speaker. Then crank it, you will never blow a speaker and it will hit so hard it hurts. 300w to the 10s in a well made bandpass box that is matched well to the speakers can pound way harder than most any single 12'. Only drawback is bandpass boxes are big. My set of rockford p1s and a 550w amp shakes my mirrors so bad I cant see. Its like a soothing back rub if you can ignore the hearing loss. a 12 is nice but it cant it the same range as 10s can, most techno has some low, lots of mid and alot of high end bass... 10s hit high, mid, and low if you get a good set. not some cheap ebay set. Expect to pay $80+ a speaker if not more.

Another thing, dont mix and match 10s in a bandpass. Sometimes in rare cases they can actualy be louder. but Usualy they cancel each other out and sound like shit and will blow one or both in a sealed box.

I cant recomend a 12 with out amping your mids and hI range speakers. That gets very expensive and sucks alot of power.

If you have the money to burn... run about 1000w to a 15 and another 1000 to a set of 10s and amp your interior speakers. You would hear that monster a mile away. And with the 15 you would feel it 1/2 mile away.

    Save money for acustic mats.
I cant Slam further. The ground refuses to get any lower.

This i think is already in the beginners thread. But it depends on what you want. 10s for tight bass.... 12s for more BOOM. What kind of music do you listen to?

my brother is trying to sell me two 12's in a box. I cant afford spending a lot of money right now. They are Sonx xPlodes. How large of an amp is typically needed to push two 12's>?

You really dont know much about car stereos do you? Bandpass boxes are made for less power. Also sound VERY VERY sloppy, Never have tight bass. 12" subs are THE BEST all around sub because it has the largest range of tones that it can reach. Yes 10's can reach higher tones, but 12's will hit those same tones, and lower. (1) 12" sub in a nice Sealed box will give you TIGHT head hurting bass. End of story.

I wouldnt put more than 250 watts to one. I DONT CARE that it says 1200 watts on the back, it will NEVER handle that power. (they are very very over rated on their power handleing)

Yes, but 2-15's with the right setup have such a nice ground-rumbling hit...

That wasnt part of the original question? I can also recommend a wall with (6) 15's... but that wont get us anywhere will it?

Customlowz pretty much said it about the subs, I do have a suggestion for when you want more sound in the future it you want to keep the stock headunit. Get a quality 4channel amp to power some aftermarket speakers in both the door and deck. to run that off the stock headunit you will just have to make sure you get an amp with high level inputs in addition to the standard rca. Run from wires from one pair of speaker outputs (from the headunit) to the amp and that will give your amp the signal since our old honda's dont have amp preout rca's. The run some wiring from the amp to your speakers. Ebay is your friend. I'm running a very decent sounding alpine setup (360w 4ch amp, 6x9 and 6.5 speakers) and I haven't broken $200 yet.

As far as subs, you get what you pay for. I wouldn't buy those sony's unless he practically gives them to you. They blow very easily and are about as tight as your great grandmas skin. Either find a good name speaker at a discount, or buy less known brand from a company that's not out there just to be out there, like CDT, Elemental designs, Focal, zapco etc. So far ED is the cheapest I've seen, Focal is the best money can buy just about, zapco's are good but a bit higher than Focal. Seeing nothing but good about ED lately, and while they are designed by different people they are made by the same factory as cdt, also known as a good speaker. I'm about to get an oem style 12" sub from ED that was only $40 but the reviewer raved (ran it on as much as 450 underrated watts!). Be looking for a review soon...

Ya, all that I'll say is:

                            1) Bandpass enclosures are louder, but the accuracy sucks ass.

                            2) 2-10" over 1-12" any day of the week.

                            3) Too much power in a sub amp is always better than not enough; clipping detroys voice coils.

                            4) Adjust your gains properly the first time, avoid premature ejack...... Uhm, premature sub blowouts. LOL!

^just went through an adult education class. That being said his num#3 is something most ppl get backwards. Clipping from turning an amp up to push more wattage than rated kills subs even if they aren't near 'rated wattage'. As far as bandpass it's not always bad. I heard both two ten and two twelve focals in a slot ported setup and I've heard nothing close ported or slotted, the twelves were tighter than any other tens I've heard as well. It really depends and it's personal preference as well. Go to best buy, circuit city, Car toys, and any other small shops you can just to get a feel for what you like. That and you will develope an ear for what is quality and what is crap.
