Is a Sub really worth it?

There is no replacement for a well-balanced system. Highs, mids, and lows all properly crossed over, gains sets, the proper projection, the sub enclosure built for your specific application.....not some cheap-ass obcon/bandpass box.

After reading this thread there aren't too many members I could accuse of being AUDIOPHILES.

LOL, cmon dude no need for the elitism...some people just want bass, that doesn't make them any less worthy...my system right now is pretty shitty, I know I could do better...but for now it keeps me happy, and in the end that's all that really matters.

I'm glad you're happy, I built my stereo for me....not for everyone else to hear. Those same people drive by my house everyday playing their bass loud enough to wake the dead. They deserve to have their stereos jacked...... Sorry if I am a tad blunt and picky, I guess I'm getting old.

I drive alot, so as for me, I like to get into my music when I drive. I also like it so sound crisp, without letting the bass overwhelm the mids and highs. So I went with (4) Pioneer 6 1/2" 3-ways in the front, (2) Pioneer 6x9's in the back, (2) Pioneer Premier 10" subs, and old-school Rockford Fosgate amps. Controlling it all is a Pioneer MEH-P9000R Minidisc Player. (I like MD's better than CD's 'cause you can't scratch a MD)

As for blasting my music, yes, I do it, but I lower it before reaching my destination. Besides, If you want my system you'll have to work for it!

I'm with you, that's why I got rid of my subs...and anyone who blasts their shit or guns their fart can Civic through the streets at 3AM deserves to get their shit jacked...but if someone has a loud system and is respectable with it I don't see the problem.

So let me see if I understand this correctly. If someone is playing Jay-Z in a parking lot, you tell them to keep it down, and they respond with a "fuck off," that is justification for you to destroy what is not yours? If I were the owner of the car that told you to "fuck off" and you tried that with me, you would never forget that day for as long as you are on God's green earth..........but that's just me. Hey, its all a matter of what you yourself want in terms of a "Complete System". A true complete system to me and many others here means having all types of frequencies in terms of lows, meds, and highs... I personally would go with a Sub to compliment the system, nothing tooo outrageous but good enough and well worth the money.

Id recommend Alpine, but if your on a Budget you can still pick up something with great quality.

But if subs arent your thing, just get some killer 6X9's. My old setup was similar back when i needed the trunk space (which btw is a downfall to subs unless you flushmount them somewhere) in which i ran 2 Alpine Type R 6 X 9's which literally sounded like a pair of 10' subs powered by a 4ch. Alpine Amp.

Just my 2 cents though, do what you think is right....

Wow its actually surprising how many of u are hatin on subs. i can't roll a car with no bass. i can see if ur listen to some country music or something, but if u bumpin some lil' jon or somethin or some 6.5 or 6x9's theres something wrong with you. no system is complete without good high and low ranges, u need to hear every aspect of the music. i'm starting to believe most have u have never even heared a good system let alone know how to hook one up. i've never owned a mid with less the 260 watts or a sub with less than 1,000. D class amps all the way. come sit in my car when u hear every tone thats when ur actually listening to the music.

My current system with just 6.5s and 6x9s runs through the full frequency range, probably all the way down to 20Hz...having a 150+dB SPL system isn't necessary to hear music.
