ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    Front Door Speaker Wire

About 2 months ago I purchased a 93 ex sedan from a buddy of mine at work. Then found cb7tuner.com, and have been reading for about a month. I currently don't have rear seats, carpet, or trim installed due to needing to clean every part of the interior, also the need to install stereo wiring under the carpet. The diy section on here is full of great info. I have already done the map light mod (from a 94), installed an aem cai, installed suspension techniques anti-sway bars in the front/rear and a DC Sports rear lower tie bar (to accompany Tokico HP's, Eibach Pro-Kit, and front/rear strut tower bars that the car already had on it..) This thread is meant to see if any one has attempted to pull a 12ga. wire into the front doors for use with the speakers. the reason for this is that I’ve got a 300/4 JL amp for my cabin speakers, and don't want to shove that kind of power through the tiny stock wires. Looking at the car, it seems that i may be able to take out the splashguards in the fender to access the little door at the top of the s tube. Then shove a hanger or something in to the cabin..... Any ideas?

    thank you
.... will be makeing a smaller sig soon.

hey whats up, you sound like you had the same plans like I did when I first got my cb7, what you've got going sounds great.

but about the 12awg, the human ear cannot actually tell a difference between 16awg and 12awg wiring, and 16awg is much easier to run. That's what I've run, and of course it sounds great. now, if you're still stuck with the 12awg, I'm sure you could still run it, it may require a bit of time to run it though.

What kind of speakers will you be running?

    thanks,

if you undo the clips for the front fender liner, you can get to the place where the stock wiring harness goes from the door into the side of the dashboard. if youve got small hands you could get it. 12g is thick enough that i wouldnt attempt to feed it through the stock plastic looming (youll see what i mean)...

I don't have a problem with going to 16awg, i'll just need to exchange this 12 i got already for some 16. i'll probably save a few bucks in doing that too. just about anthing is better than the stock stuff. have you done this to your vechicle?

*sigh* why did you use such a large wire? you can run lots more power through a 16awg wire than you would think. my power wires to my subs, upwards of 400wRMS each, were 14awg. so i dont see using 12awg for speaker wire. for power wire, sure, but not speaker wire...

it was probably the amount of flak i got about even being able to do it.... the smaller wire would have been easier for sure, but.. oh well. i'll be pushing 75 rms through these things. probably a little overkill but if i ever upgrade... my wires will allways big big enough. plus, i had to solder another 15 foot length to the one that goes into the doors in order to get all the way into the trunk... and your connection is only as good as the weakest link. i figure i'm not the expert solderer so there being a little more wire to work with seems good to me. will be some time b4 i get the amps and subs in because i got a leak in my rear window.... thanks everyone.

hmm, i've run a lot more than 75wRMS through a much smaller wire.

there is no need to even upgrade the stock wiring at all for just 75 rms, its a myth, you would lose about 1/3 to 1/2 a decible from just using the stock wiring. so using 12 guage is inaudiable, however i guess it couldnt hurt anything

                        ear drums...

well you probably wont notice the difference to the speaker unless you meter it. I mean your ear drums only listen for so much. Using the stock wiring looks shady but it does the job just as good as running a new wire. Even tho with this comment I ran new wires as well. But I used 16 gauge. Im thinking forget the doors and go with kick panels, I dont like the sound you get through the doors. More direct I believe would be better!
