    volfenhag amp issue

im not the smartest guy with systems so here goes

i need some help i have an 800w volfenhag amp runnin two 12' kicker comp subs- each sub peaks at 300w and 150w RMS

the problem is that everytime i throw in a heavy hittin cd, the amp will go into protect mode and shut off my subs till the song isnt too loud- the amp is bridged. i took this problem to a place called sound connection in brainerd, mn- he fixed it up so it wouldnt kill out as often and they got quieter. i tried unbridging them but it was pathetic- so im trying to figure out wut the problem is, i have 8g wire going throuigh the system(crappy i no) bought the amp used so idk much bout it

any ideas to fix this prob, best buy thought it was a power prob, so i thought of getting a cap- otherweise should i aim for a new amp????

caps don't help. I'm thinking you have the subs wired to too low of an impedence(sp?) which means your amp can't control the current going through it and it'll eventually overheat, that's usually why it goes into protect mode. Why it's not playing as loud now I have no idea

I would most certainly shoot for a new amp. Volfenhag is crap, no offense to you. Get you a nice Sony or Alpine Class D amp and run them in paralell for a 2ohm load. That will get them bumping.

its not playing as loud cause they unbridged the amp.

my advice too would be to get another amp, a sony amp would be better than that current amp, and its not that expensive. when getting your amp try to get one that has more-than-enough power. after that get a amp wiring kit with around 4 guage power wire. since you said that your not good when it comes to systems you could run the new wires, run it exactly how the old one was run.

volfenhag looks awesome and looks pretty cool but I tell you the people in germany dont even realize someone is making it. Thats why it a german "concept". It's an idea that should have been scrapped.

anyways check to see if your gain or db enhancer is all the way up, chances are you are running to low a gauge of wire and you have the amp cranked up so everyone and there mother knows you are coming. Not a bad thing but bad for the amp and subs. If thats the case than a cap would help because it will retain some power so that when your amp wants it its there. It may be a bit more of a load on the altenator but at least you wont fry you amp and blow the subs.
No longer working on the cb. To much time and money has been put into it. Check my for sale thread where the whole car will be parted out.

I agree that volfenhag isn't that good. Like he said, you should look for a new amp. alpine class d would be a good choice, or find an amp that is 2 ohm stable if you want to bridge them in parallel. my guess is that the amp you have now isn't 2 ohm stable, hence the shutting off. To be honest, if you search on ebay, you can find amps for way less money then you would find them in your neighbourhood shop ( at least thats the case for me here). I'm going to promote one product because its a pretty freaking sweet porduct, and i have it in my car and thats soundstream reference series.. It's oldschool car audio, and the refrence line is total A class quality and they go as low as 1/2 ohm stable!!!! thats freaking sick.. so trust me, if you look on ebay, search up soundstream reference, and i would pick up a 500 or a 750. Trust me it'll be more then enough power, I run one 500sx on two 12 inch soundstream reference subs(500 peak/250 rms) and they pound so fucking hard!!! its sick shit man but its all because they are totally high quality amps.
Oh and running bigger power and ground wire won't do too much to your system, 8 gauge should be sending enough power to the amp already, and dont worry about buying a cap either. Different amp will be the only solution

Another amp would be best but those amps probably are not desgned to run and the ohm load in which you have them running. Are subs dual voice coil? If so you have amp running mono so it is seeing a 2 ohm or maybe 1 ohm mono load if subs are dual voice coil 2 ohm subs. The amp will go into protect mode instead of blowing or overheating and frying to protect itself. New amp is really the only way to fix problem. I am sure you do not want to sell the subs.

ok so im guessing the new amp is the only way than right? ok- well that sound referenc eill look up, my friends and i also came up with the idea that 4g wire would be better than 8g cuz i could push mor epwer through, they said get a cap cuz it can only help- and yea i dont wanna sell my subs just got em lol- so wut other amps should i look for?

If you can afford this, then I would get it.

Looks like a good amp for your setup. Try looking on ebay if you can't afford this one. It even is made for 8 gauge wire like you have in your car, so that is a plus also. It was also reccomended by people on here to get a class d amp, which this is. This amp with your subs would be a great combo.

Although i do agree this amp is a good amp that he has given the link for... if you bridge it and run the subs parallel (making the imdependence at 2 ohms) this amp might not be able to handle it.. it says bridge is 4 ohm stable, so you would have to go stereo setup or run them in series which makes the independence to 8 ohms.. which will give you even less power. So make sure whatever amp you look for, make sure you check for the ohm stabability, or you could be running into the exact same problem.

You don't need a cap, I had a 2400 watt amp and everything was fine, just some dimming. But the cap will actually take more power from the subs, as i've heard.
