ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    No sound from speakers

    Alright, here's a strange one.

Wired up the headunit in my wagon, and got power to it.

Wired up the speakers. No sound. This car had a crazy custom system installed, so I ripped it all out, and found that speaker wires were spliced into and amped and stuff.

So, I ran my own speaker wires directly from the headunit harness, to each speaker location and soldered all my connections.

All day yesterday, the stereo worked great, sounded fantastic and everything was good. Went out to the car this morning, turned it on, radi owas on, but I had no sound.

I checked my fuses and all my speaker wires and connections and I can't find anything wrong.

    Headunit: 2004ish Pioneer AM/FM/CD/mp3
Speakers: Four 5 1/4" Boston Acoustic mids.
Wiring: 18 gauge speaker wire (overkill, but all the store had)

    Ideas?? I'm stumped.

those radios have a protection circuit that shuts down the internal amp if it sees any problems. could be blown speaker or grounded wire. could be a tinsel lead touching metal where the speaker is mounted. try fading to each speaker individually. you may figure out which one it is easily.

Huh? That`s a tough one.. Especially if it worked yesterday with no issues.
You checked all ur settings on/in the head-unit? I know they dont just magically change over night.
If you turn off your head-unit and hold Function or Audio, its Audio on my pioneer, u`ll get in to different settings..
This is where the Internal Amp On/Off should be that BIGRICH is talking about.

I tried to fade, balance, find if there was a mute function or anything, and got absolutely nothing out of them. Played with all the settings on the deck.

I think I could be a grounded wire or something. I'll have to go through it all again. Electronics frustrate me.

Well, Mikey, you are crazy. Lol. If the radio turns on, you didn't have to check the fuses as it's working, but no sound.
Check to make sure the stereo is not muting.
Is the head unit connect directly to the speakers? If yes then you need to trace the speakers. What I would do it take all of the wires off, then put one speaker at a time on to see which one is the problem. The thing is you could have a bad speaker out from the head unit.
Now if you have RCAs out to the amp, it's another matter. The RCA might be shorted or your amp might be in protected mode. If the amp is in protected mode or the speakers are shorted, then when you turn it on, it will make a pop then the amp light will blink. In this case disconnect all speakers and connect one by one to figure out which one.
Just FYI: You have a Pioneer head unit, do not disconnect the RCAs plugs while the the unit is on, you will blow the pico fuses and get ground noise from the RCAs.
          Good luck.

I have no amplifiers, just the 4 component speakers wired directly to the headunit harness. They do not go through the car's speaker wire harness at all.

When I eventually have some time I'll figure it out.

Turned out the front left speaker wire was grounding out inside the door. Fixed it, and got sound again.

                Hey Mikey,
You found that out when you took off the door panel and the speakers? Was it just a single strand of copper wire or what was causing it?
                Thanks.

I ran all my own wiring to each speaker. It got pinched in the window track.

What tips do you have for me to run those wires into the door? Did you drill new holes or ran them through the OEM boots? Did you have to take the fenders off?
I need to run a 10GA wire into the door for the window module and some 18Ga wires also to the driver's door.
                    Thanks.

I just half assed ran the wire through the boot in the door and wrapped it with wire loom and electrical tape. Looks awful, but it works.

there is no setting to turn off the power source in the unit....i meant you would have to find the problem before it would come back on...on its own.

good that you found the problem...
