ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    optimal amp placement

ok so i've had my amp in 2 different places, mounted to the back of the rear seat, and to the floor under the passenger seat, which is where it is currently sitting. what i'm worried about, when the winter sets in, and i start using my heat again, will the floor vents for the rear seat over heat my amp? they really have no way to redirect the heat around it.

and i did just finish my wagon trunk swap, has anybody tried mounting an amp to the underside of the hinged floor piece?

I'd be more concerned about water than overheating. It gets to about 180F in the car in the summer. You'll be fine .

water? i've got all new door and window seals, had my carpet up before i put it in, zero rust in the floor. is there another place i should be checking for leaks?

and the main reason i put it there, i was too cheap to buy full length rca's. everything was free, amp, power wiring (from a JY cb), sub from a buddy. i just have several sets of 6ft rca cables, and speaker wire is alot cheaper to run through the length of the car versus rca cables.

The location is fine. I was just saying water would be a larger hazard than the amp overheating and since you have that taken care of, its even less of a worry.
Do you have passengers that may kick it?

Not really, we have no friends so no one rides in our back seat. And it pretty well tucked anyway

i had a four channel kenwood under the seat in my civic and had no problems.

if you do put it under your cargo floor make sure you mount it right side up; most amps are designed to disperse heat from the top; if you mount it upside down the heat soaks right back into the internal components

Mount it on the back of the rear seats. I've always mounted my amps in the trunk, with the exception of one for the interior speakers that I mounted in the dash.

it'll be fine where its at. it doesn't even get that hot where its mounted either, the floor stays relatively cool. its the dash that takes sunlight abuse. many radar detectors are put to rest this way.

I think he is asking about the little floor vent under the passenger seat, is this just a hole that lets air in or is it connected to the heater? if it's connected to the heater his question re worded would be

"Will the hot air coming out of the heaters vent be too hot for my amp when I need to use the heater in the winter"

I'm curious as well, as you can see I don't even know what that vent is. But I believe that is what he is asking, everyone is talking about just well the cars atmospheric temperature and it's effect on the amp, but he wants to know if the heater air directly on the amp will effect it if this is the case...

heat is amps enemy. i wouldnt trust it so much being directly in front of a heating vent. amps already put out a lot of heat on its on. more or so you will probably do more damage to the amp if it doesnt get a some type of cool air....i guess if you keep it down there you will have to wait and see when the cold comes.
RIP 4/23/12...lets not forget, the 88" Z31 turbo, are my dailys

I live in FL and it gets really Hot. Under the Seat AMPs work well due to the AC blowing on it so it Helps a little bit. Remember that AMPs are made to with stand the the adjstment of TEMPS. If you do keep it under the seat you might have have to not Run the heat to your Feet. But try it out. You might get away with it under your seat.

                          Good Luck.
