ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

450 rms. Is 4awg really necessary?

Ok like the title says, Im running 450rms to a single subwoofer.
    My setup:
    Amp-Lanzar MAXP1200 monoblock. 450 rms 4 ohms, 900max 2 ohms, 1800 max 1ohm
Subwoofer- RE audio SRX 300rms, pushing it to 450rms at 2ohms.

I read on one of those wiring guides, that anything above 400rms over a distance of like 10 feet(i cant remember) needs a minimum of 4gauge to operate properly. When I bought my kit, I bought one of those cheapy ones that comes with "4 gauge" but is really like 6AWG. My question is, will there be any benefit from switching from "4 gauge" to 4awg?

For my speaker wires, im running 12awg, which seems a little bit thin to me. Would there any benefit of double stranding this as well?

there is no negative aspect of upgrading wires. will the difference be noticeable ? in your case very slightly. but its still an improvement even if you cant hear it. double stranding will help if you are strapped for wire or $$.
as for the sub run your amp at 2ohm since the sub is running 2ohm

Nothing wrong with oversizing, but its not necessary.. id use 4awg for anything over 50 amps/500w rms

8awg should be sufficient for anything pressing 500w or less.. my JL 500.1 / DD1010 setup is on rockford fosgate 8awg and runs absolutely fine.

but i ran 4awg on my last car for my Alpine PDX1000.1 / Blaupunkt vw1000

added: 12awg is plenty fine for speaker wire, thats a decent size.

Ok another question. Is there any benefit of using 10awg vs 12awg for my subwoofer wires?

Not that quality 8awg wire should be used, not that BS from Wal-Mart...

good point as well, i use rockford fosgate wiring or wire from knuconceptz.com on my setups.

Yes. Rockford makes legit wiring, that's what I am using for my battery relocation(4awg of course). I don't know anything about the other though, so I will refrain from commenting.

knukonceptz is very good wire. Their 4 awg has a higher strand count than rockford 4 awg by about 400 strands and it's only 1.55 a foot. To the OP, a good quality 8 awg will work just fine.

It should be noted that that they use different types of copper wire...

Well how would i be able to tell the difference? I have the 4 gauge in there that actually replaced an 8 gauge fosgate kit, and the wiring on the 4 gauge, although not true 4 gauge, seemed thicker, like 6 gauge than the fosgate one. I mean its only 400 rms. should i just go ahead and buy a quality 4 gauge?

No, the 8 gauge Rockford kit, in all likely hood, transfers near as much power as the knock off brand "4" gauge kit. Quantity, as well as quality, of wire matters. The cheaper kit probably uses cheaper copper, and less of it vs comparable Rockford kits. The Rockford kit is enough for a 400w amplifier.

Well idk if it matters, probably not, but this is the kit that I bought to replace the fosgate kit. I actually got it for cheaper:

You probably won't hear a noticeable difference but were you will see a big difference is in how cool the amp stays. It shouldn't heat up as much with a larger gauge wire as long as you are running at the correct ohm load for the amp.
