ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Recommendation plz

    Hello all ~

    I have purchased a cb7 today.
My car has a stock radio with cassette tape player.
I haven't seen a cassette tape player for a long long time.
It reminded me of my teen age period.

Anyways, the radio is not working at all and I am considering doing some audio by myself.
I have never done it before and I will use 'Search' function as much as possible.

Could you guys recommend me decent sound system? I am thinking about headunit / speakers / amps and bass box.
For bass box, I want to use my trunk hence do not want to go for huge box.

    Any recommendation is greatly appreciated.

I was reading other posts and I felt that my question is too general.
As you may have guessed, I really have little knowledge about the audio systems.
If you guys have personal preferece of systems and combinations of systems, please share.
    Thx !

your budget is very important. how much do you wanna spend?

but here is a good alpine h/u and it comes with dash instal kit and a wire harness connector so you don't have to cut yours factory harness since it still has the tape player here's the link

Thats pretty much it, basically all u need right there. It really depends on what you're really after. Since u don't have much experience with systems I'm gonna assume u basically want decent sound with some bass up in there (not a hella system where u would be in sound competitions or anything just something nice). If your asking what HU/speaker/amp combos are best then you're gonna have 8 pages of opinions, everybody has their own personal tastes. My answer would be go with a name brand HU (Alpine, Kenwood, my personal fav for HU is Pioneer). I like mine with iPod control but u can shop around and see which one fits your personal likes. I recommend swapping out your stock speakers with aftermarket ones. Again the brand and whatnot is up to u. Get a mono amp and maybe a single dual voice coil sub (10" or 12" would be my suggestion) to conserve space. U can hook an amp up to your front and rear speakers but it isn't necessary. The HU has a built in amp for that. Some will swear by adding and additional amp for those speakers but I've ran many systems without it and my shit was still crackin. Just be sure to purchase an HU with an internal crossover so u can fine tune your frequences so u don't blow the front and rears with too much bass. We can go on and on and get really detailed with it but for what I'm assuming you're after then u should be good with that.

The new alpine type-r 8" is the current forum boner. And it's only like 100 bucks. Good sound and minimal space right? It works in like .4 cubes ported and has the output of a 10.

                  Yeah. you are right.
I am not after any kind of competition. I just want to enjoy some music while I am in the car. Several people asked me about the budget. I honestly don't know how much I need to spend to have decent system. Maybe $2k? Of course money is an issue, so I can not go all the way up, however, I am willing to spend I guess between $2k ~ $2.5K for decent system. Do you think my budget can get me a decent system? Argh... I paid around $1k for the car and now talking about more than double the money for the system. I just want long waited my cb7 to be enjoyable. Thx for your comments

                  Guys.
If you guys know about a good site where I can look up all products and has good price, please share with me.
As you guys mentioned, I believe it will be better for me to look up the product first and ask for your experienced opinions after.

                  Thank you in advance ~~

                  I agree with you.
I should have looked around the product first and asked for the opinions. I will try to do that now and will post it later. Thx !

If you are looking for some websites to browse, sonicelectronix as SPLCB7 mentioned is very affordable as well as onlinecarstereo.

                      http://www.sonicelectronix.com/

                      http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/

If you are looking for some car audio knowledge spend some time looking around Crutchfield. They are more expensive than the above listed websites, but they have tons of useful information that you can read up on as well as very good customer service.

                      Hope this helps.

Edit: haha oops looks like I doubled up on some info with sonik lol

U can buy a great system for way less than 2 grand. Unless you're buying a lot of expensive shit and have some custom boxes and what not then that much money isn't necessary. I've bought entire systems speakers, box, amps, subs and HU all brand name for less than a grand. Of course I know how to hook up all that shit too so I'm sure that make a difference in you're budget (I'm assuming u know nothing about hooking up a system if u don't know much about systems). But regardless of all that just the items alone u can get for less than a grand all day long.

                          thx Sonikaccord
I listen to pops most. I will settle with the system I can afford for now and if I enjoy it so much, then I will considering upgrading later. I personally do not think I am super picky about sound. I just want to have a good sounding system that I can settle with. I don't wanna be so anal about it. I do not mind used ones either, however, I do not have ability to tell if the condition is good or bad. If installation is DIY doable, then I want to give it a try to install it myself since I want to learn about it. I know the quality of installation won't be good if I do it. Well, at least I can learn the basics if I do it instead of hiring a guy to do it.
I will look into sites you taught me.
                          Thx a lot.

I just put my budget since that is all I can afford for now. I had no idea how much I need to purchase all hardwares. As you can tell, I know almost nothing about hooking up a system. Oh well, I know + needs to be connected to + and vice versa for -.
I guess I will be seeking lots of advices from you guys.

Well good luck with all of that. Putting a system in your car is always fun and exciting. There's a lot to be said about spending hours installing all of your shit and wiring it all throughout the car and whatnot. Then when u finally have the last cable grounded and everything is good to go and u pop in your favorite CD or MP3 and your subs begin to throb. Its a good feeling.
