Stereo shut off at 4500 RPM

It can't be the alternator. The car would drop down to battery voltage ~12.8V unless your battery is dead.
I'll vote lose connection to the radio. Constant 12V, ACC, and ground.

Isn't it possible that the alternator could be over charging due to a bad regulator?

Not in this case. He would notice it in other places if he was overcharging. The biggest thing is his battery would boil.

Surprisingly, some people don't notice stuff like that. Some people don't realize if their engine has a piston fly out through their hood but they'll notice right away if they lose their soundz.

Here's a quick test that can help eliminate a few possibilities:
Does it do it when it's parked, or only when driving?

Question the second:
Factory or aftermarket?

Another Easy test:
Find a second car battery, and set it in the passenger's seat or on the floor or something, isolated from anything else. Run that to the stereo.

Problem is odd though.

Is it a swapped car?
Did he rig up the vtec solenoid?
Vtec controller?
Any other odd electronics rigged up in the car?

At least your stereo doesn't change songs when you turn on the blinkers(cousins cb9) lol I would love to know how it works.

that would be a pretty neat mod; if you could find out how it got that way. hope to see a diy soon.
