ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    5 channel or 4 channel + mono

So I was curious as to what you guys thought would be better.

I have an old school sony explode mobile ES 5 channel amp model xm-7557 rated at 4x100 and 280x1. I know newer explode stuff sucks but I remember these being pretty stout and like 700 bucks in like 2001.

My question is is there any advantage to using separate amps for 4 channel and subs?

The 5 channel has high current/high voltage select and has crossover's for each input individually.

Also it has two input's for power and ground do I need to use both?

    TIA

you would be running each amp at a higher wattage if you do them separately depending on amp/sub ohm impedance for example if your running a 2 channel amp maxed at 200wts and two subs they are running at ~100 wts each if you bridge one sub to that amp you get full power to the one sub.

I would do a 4 channel and a mono amp or even a 2 channel for the fronts and just a mono for the subs. You dont really need to amp the rears.

I HATE Sony Xplod stuff, BUT, the Mobile ES is actually good stuff. I'd run the 5 channel amp, you already have it, and you won't have to figure out another remote wire, ground, distribution block... and I'd amp your door and rear speakers, then add a sub and call it a day

Yeah I can't think of why I would only amp the door speakers and not the rear.

I'm only going to be running 1 sub. I have an old school rockford fosgate hx2 12"

My thought was to only have one set of wiring, just wasn't sure if I would lose anything using one amp but I guess it's just built like that. Plus I guess stuff was made good back then. I wouldn't use sony car audio now to save my a**

i think i kno witch am ur talkin about. when i 1st seen it i didnt even kno sony made something like that. older stuff is always better than the newer stuff. id keep that amp and make a built to spec box. if i ever came across an amp like that i would definitely buy it. if your not looking for somethin 2 loud this is the amp 2 go with

Here is the link from the amp it was from 2001

                http://www.crutchfield.com/S-PiYM6JE...S-XM-7557.html

As far as I know it was $800 brand new and worth every penny. I picked it up on craigslist for $50 fully expecting it not to work but it's been great.

There is also a pic in my beginner ride's post http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=161503
