ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

noob me on 3 and 4 way 6.5"

Ok I have an old head unit...or is calling my radio a head unit like calling my exhaust manifold a header

    It's a Sony Xplode XR-C5300x 50x4 cassette.
It actually pushes out some very good bass...well...for a non "performance" head unit that is. It's got the regular bass settings under audio setup...then 3 levels of bass boost. I typically run it on the first bass boost and have the bass 3 units back from max.

Ok to the point...I do not plan on replacing the radio any time soon...but for this type of radio I was wondering. I've seen 3 way 6.5", 4 way 6.5". And I've seen up to 5-way 6x9's

Now this is assuming that the speakers max wattage and rms were all the same and that my radio's rms did not exceed the speakers rms

Wouldn't I get better sound out of my stereo by using 2-way speakers all around? Would the 5-way 6x9's not sound as good as a set of 2-ways?

I currently have 2-way 5.25" up front and they sound ok, and I have 3-way 6x9's in the rear, they also sound ok.

I am wanting to get 6.5" up front and maybe replace the 6x9's in the rear IF getting 2-way instead of 3-way would perform better...again...given the radio I use. I should add...i do not plan on spending over $100 for either pair of front or rear speakers...no more than 150...maybe 200 for all four.

So given those specs and assuming these "make believe speakers" have the same rms as my radio (or higher)...will 2-way, 3-way, 4-way, 5-way matter, would the more "ways" reduce how good they sound?

    oh shit...just found this...

    my radio....19 watts RMS/50 peak x 4 channel

wow my radio sucks ass! Sounds ok though...ok I need a new head unit...

I'm still curious about sound quality with those different speakers

The concept is that the more "ways" you have per speaker, the better they're going to sound because the woofer cone isn't attempting to create higher frequencies and the tweeter(s) aren't trying to create lower frequencies. I personally don't see any reason to go higher than 3-way speakers, unless of course you listen to a lot of orchestral music, consider yourself an audiophile and plan on listening to it sitting still with the engine off. 4 & 5 way speakers really lose a lot of nuances in the car. Basically, each "way" is just another speaker in the same chassis.

Ok, 19watts rms, is the standerd for the most part. This little chip amps that are in theses decks is all they can eek out right now, im sure once we design a better more power audio chip thats cheapeer you will see power output in decks go up.

A 2 way is where you have a tweeter and woofer.

A 3 way is where you have a tweeter woofer and midrange

A 4 way is where you have a woofer, midrange, tweeter and super tweeter is the most common line up.

Bassically when you design a speaker you have the option to have certain drivers (midrange, tweeter, woofer) that are designed to create a specific spectrum of sound ( mids, highs, lows, ect). How ever many drivers you use to creat your sound will determain your " X way".

Honestly I woudlnt go any higher than a 3 way... A personally feel that the 4 and 5 ways were created for marketing, the filler speakers they use like super tweeter, or low mid and hi midrange and shit are junk speakers that half the time you can even tell if there making sound or not... It's more of the more drivers you put together to make a speaker, the more appeal it will have and wil probably sell more. Just because it looks cool, has more speakers and is heavier...

Here is a another way to look at it. How much high end do you want from the rear... Just a lil, to screaming... 2ways for a lil, and 5way is you want obnoxiouse high end.

I would reccomend 2ways and 3ways nuthing more than that because your paying, for, marketing, and extra drivers you dnt need.

With This Combination U Wont "break Da Bank" And Get Great Sound And Quality. I've Done This Combination Numorous Times And Never Got Any Complaints. Give It A Try And Let Me Know...Hope This Helps

The first thing you need to do is change out the head unit before you touch the speakers. Your sound quality starts there, and I recommend a change to CD's. They'll reproduce a better frequency range and sound much clearer. If you are still stuck on tapes, at least get a head unit that accepts some kind of MP3 plug in or adapter. I also vote for seperates for the front, Alpine/Pioneer/Rockford Fosgate, etc.

Well I'm trying to find a good head unit but I'm looking at rms and max wattage and if I'm gonna spend 200+ on a head unit it better have more rms and max wattage then my xplode.

Now higher power (wattage) doesn't mean it will SOUND better, but I want good sound, better/higher power output...and not a fancy flip screen...not big on the full on system...had one of those...maybe later.

So I might be stuck between a rock, a hard place, and an immovable force

Ok regarding the 6x9's, it all depends on which speakers ur going to use and if ur using an amp or not, 6x9's would sound great if ur usind an good preamp, so that u can adjust the highs and lows, but directly from an head unit and the one he's describing, I'd stick with 6.5's...

Now regarding ur head unit r u planning on addind any amps to ur system, and what excactly do u want to accomplish with ur system...blow ur windows out or just have good quality sound with blowing ur ears?...LOL
