Ok I have an old head unit...or is calling my radio a head unit like calling my exhaust manifold a header
It's a Sony Xplode XR-C5300x 50x4 cassette.
It actually pushes out some very good bass...well...for a non "performance" head unit that is. It's got the regular bass settings under audio setup...then 3 levels of bass boost. I typically run it on the first bass boost and have the bass 3 units back from max.
Ok to the point...I do not plan on replacing the radio any time soon...but for this type of radio I was wondering. I've seen 3 way 6.5", 4 way 6.5". And I've seen up to 5-way 6x9's
Now this is assuming that the speakers max wattage and rms were all the same and that my radio's rms did not exceed the speakers rms
Wouldn't I get better sound out of my stereo by using 2-way speakers all around? Would the 5-way 6x9's not sound as good as a set of 2-ways?
I currently have 2-way 5.25" up front and they sound ok, and I have 3-way 6x9's in the rear, they also sound ok.
I am wanting to get 6.5" up front and maybe replace the 6x9's in the rear IF getting 2-way instead of 3-way would perform better...again...given the radio I use. I should add...i do not plan on spending over $100 for either pair of front or rear speakers...no more than 150...maybe 200 for all four.
So given those specs and assuming these "make believe speakers" have the same rms as my radio (or higher)...will 2-way, 3-way, 4-way, 5-way matter, would the more "ways" reduce how good they sound?
