so i already have an aftermarket head unit installed in my car. it was there when i got it. i am trying to get to the rear of the unit to look at the outputs it has, and because i wanted to clean up a little under the dash parts. so i followed the diy on removing stock head unit, and i get to the place where the hu mounts with the 8mm bolts above the ashtray, but the 8mm bolts arent there. is there another place it can mount, or should i proceed to rip it out. it feels fairly snug, like something is holding it in place.

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

there's a ton of screws in it, i had to pull it the other day to fix my A/C controls... the two you mentioned above the head unit come out, there's also two at the very bottom, one below and behind the cigarette lighter and one behind where the ashtray goes, pretty deep in there. Those are the easy ones... now you gotta pull out the two center vents, there's a screw behind each of those, take out the rear defogger and hazard switches, there's screws behind those too, then take out the sunroof/cruise switch, theres another one behind there, then take out the far left vent, one more there, then finally two more directly above the guages... i think that's all of them. be careful when pulling it off, it's fairly fragile, and you'll have to move your steering wheel up and down to get to certain screws also.91 EX Coupe 5 Speed

I believe the whole center piece does have to come out in order to reach the screws that hold the head unit in. There is no other way around it, unless you want to break stuff. One thing that helps is that if your car is an automatic, put the key in the ignition and shift your gear selector all the way down into first to get enough clearance to remove that trim piece.Been a long time. yeah i didnt have to remove the whole center part of the dash, i did remove the two screws to loosen it up to give it some play, and the whole thing came out pretty easily.
the reason for this project, is that i want to use the ip bus port on my stereo to run 3.5mm cable to my droid for music, out the back up under, around the gear shift to the slot left of the e brake. the current setup i have is the ip bus to rca cable, and then rca to 3.5mm headphone jack.
the issue id like to overcome is charging. i know that using the 3.5mm jack i cant use to charge the phone, so i was curious to see if theres some way use micro usb to play and charge the phone at the same time. if there isnt, i would like to find someway to charge and play the phone simultaneously, while keeping cables hidden. like running a separate power source to the same location.
i have a dehp4500mp pioneer headunit, if that helpsWar is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things.
