ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    kicker comp 12 (c12)

    Hey guys

I have 2 kicker comp 12's , and I had a bandpass box that was old and worked decently, but tragedy struck, i left the mdf exposed and it got touched by rain water , thus expansion and mold was the result , enough so that i had to throw in the towel and throw it away

Of course i have no box now, and i remember in the manual it gave specifications to making a box proper to the size of these subs in particular(c12).

It includes the formula ,the amount of space the magnet takes out in the interior space and how much the port should be, but its a formula , and im not to hot when it comes to geometry ,and ive been out of school a lil bit to long.

Id like some help on figuring out the dimensions to make this box, Some people already told me just make a box, but i know if the dimensions of the box affects the sound quality and the longevity of the subs, no sense on making a box to only burn them out.

here is what is in the manual

    VentedEnclosureApplications

    Model: c12

    **formula**
    2.25ft^3(63.7L)+Port Displacement
    2x12.5''(5.1x31.8cm)port, 16.375''(41.6cm) long
    powerhandling = 150w ms

Heres a pic if theres still some confusion, i know i am. Looking forward to your responses.

    Let's see.

    1cu.ft = 12x12x12

    So 2.25cu.ft=27"x27"x27"
    for one box.

hmm check this out, your calculator may be off by just a hair.

when you work out the math its self , you get a different awnser.

1 kicker comp 12 requires 2.25 cubic feet, but i have two so 4.5 cubic feet is required

so i entered measurements to fit my trunk.

        width:30
        Dept22
        height:15

        were using 3/4" mdf

Now according to cructhfields guid, to subtract the thinkcness of the wood you

(Determine the internal dimensions and volume of your box. The above steps identified the external dimensions of the box. To determine the internal volume, just subtract the thickness of the wood to be used for construction. If you're using 3/4" MDF (recommended!), then 2 x 3/4", or 1-1/2", will be subtracted from each dimension.)

        So

        30*15*22= 9900cubic inches

        to convert to feet

        9900/1728 = 5.729166667

        5.7 - 1.5= 4.2 cubic foot

not as what you enter on the site would come out to 4.56445 if you put the thickness as .75 as they prefere you to turn fractions to decimals. Now even if you put 1.5 as the thickness the cubic feet come out to 3.5625

if theres is an error point it out so i can learn from it. and i still need help get the port demenisions right.

          (30-1.5)(22-1.5)(15-1.5)=28.5*20.5*13.5=7887.375
          7887.375/1728=4.564453125 cu. ft

You were supposed to subtract 1.5 from the original dimensions for 3/4" thick mdf.

For slot port dimensions go to www.reaudio.com and go to their box calculator.

It'll sound better if you tuned it around 32-35hz.

If this is your first box, go with the kicker spec one for the experience. good luck

check out the technical manual for the comp series, theres a chart showing hz to db, im gonna stick to the specs for now. I think im gonna be pretty happy with the 38hz for now and my class d amp hooked up to them.

That's a big peak, but I'm going to let you be the judge on how it sounds.

hey im stuck on something else now

I have a mtx terminator 250/1 mono block and i have these two kickers which are single coil, i called mtx to see if if i had to do any paralle wiring. but now im just confused, the way they told me to wire it would make the amp on a 2 ohm load. shouldnt i be looking for a 4 ohm load since these are single coil 4 ohm subs?

2 svc 4 ohm subs give you a final load of 2ohms when wired in parallel.

but shoundt i be looking for a amp with a 4 ohm load. technically woundt a 2 ohm load meeting 4 ohm subs burn them up.

Your amp doesn't determine the load. Your subs are the load, the amp is just driving that load. As long as your load isn't lower than what the amp is stable at. Get it?

well mtx did tell me the paralle is done inside, i guess i was looking to far into this. So the the 2 ohm drive as you put is divied to both the 4 ohm subs correct?
