1000w amp = 4 gauge! aka 4awg
I run a 1500w amp for subs! and a 30 watt for all my door speakers.
The cap. is a great investment.
i usually have to recondition or buy a new alternator every 6 months.
(also have full set of white neons) hooked directly to batt.
4awg should be plenty.
as far as tuning the amp,
its ur $hit, tune it to how u think sounds the best! your the one listing to it.
My advise though once u find what sounds best to you, leave it.
And if this is all brand new equipment,
****1*** dont forget to install with neg batt. term disconected!!!
****2*** as tempting as it is, break your speakers in properly! dont beat em at max right away, give them about 10-20 hours of reg play, and casually crank the bass!Stay in School and learn it the correct way....

Amp wiering
I will use a 4 gauge wire for power the amp on tunning the amp first you need to know how many volts your head unit puts out base on that you tune the amp other thing before you wire the sub find out what is the lowest load your amp will take i will say 2 to 1 ohm stable so chek your sub any question post me!!!!!!!!

That amp is not really 1000 watts more like 200, 300 rms tops. IIRC it cannot accept 4 gauge. Use 8 gauge wire for power and ground.
This is the best way to set gain http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=143
Or you can do simpler way, although its less accurate. Turn up your radio to max listening level then increase gain unit distortion occurs, then back gain down until clear again.FA1

ok well I've got anuther question. I wired everything the sub wasn't puting bass out. I looked in da manual 2 da sub says like 30 diff ways 2 connect it. so I tryed them out. the one way I found it puts bass out is there's 4 prongs 2 neg 2 pos. I put da pos comin from da amp to the pos all the way to the right. the neg from da amp to the neg all the way 2 da right and bridged da other 2 together. now I played it 4 a day sounded good bass hiting how I like it(sub not new I had it installed 4 like a month) amp wasn't all the way up. now every time I put the radio up amp goes into protection mode. im upset cuz da amp isn't even a week old I bought it from dis place dat sells amps he said he doesn't use cheap. I bought it 4 150. I feel like putting my fist thru da damn amp lol cuz even if da bass hits hard on low vol it goes into protect.http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=138029 <-mrt

The amp doesn't put out ohms. The ohms is based on the speakers resistance. Check your wiring connections. That's a common problem when amps start to shut down.

Therefore, his sub isn't playing unless it's wired in series because his amp probably isn't 2Ω stable and, when wired in series, it appears as 8Ω and his amp can push it because the impedance is high enough.

that makes sence. is there any way i can get my amp nd sub working again?? its really bothering me. ive checked all the wireing again 2day and nuthing did the same exact thing. tho theres a switch on the side that u can switch it from 1/2 ch 3ch and 4 ch. i left it bridged the way it is in the pic. then i switched to 3ch nd 4 ch more bass came out lasted longer but once i put it up from 30 to like 35 went into protect. its really frustrating me. didnt go out till iput da vol up high.http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=138029 <-mrt
