Sony is "good" for the price. But, as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. Pioneer is a MUCH better alternative to Sony, however it still is not a great brand. Why are you only looking into Sony and Pioneer?

because the prices are good...now im starting to think about it..i might as well just save a little bit more money and get a alpine huh..

alpines- easy interface, lacking options and controls,
kenwood- basic interface, controls are there, hard display to read IMM.
pioneer- hard interface, options and controls are there, display is nice,

IMM Pionneer, I own a DEH-6000UB deck from pioneer, and at first youll have a hard time to get use to it, bu after a day or 2, you get use to it, and youll love it.

for a deck style, i would get a pionneer, if you compare the models, the pioneer 6000ub compares to alpines 9886, and the 6000ub is like $50-75 cheaper, and also to hook up Ipod, all you need to do is hook up the given usb cord to the back of the unit, and hook up your ipod cord and your game. Alpine you need like added accesories and crap.

How is alpine better then pIoneer and sony???? what models are you comparing? are you comparing a deh-2100mp to a 9885? what speakers are you using in the comparison, intenal deck power or external amplified, active crossover or passive, all these things play in to account and are key factors,

Ive been putting stereos in my cars for17yrs and Alpine always last longer. Every time ive had a sony, they break. Pioneer ive had always had problem with the flaceplate connectors. Alpine is a better brand, better quality

Clarion head units only get good once you start spending the big bucks. Their affordable decks are nothing compared to Pioneer's.
