Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

surround sound?

haha. Yes but true surround sound has independent speaker control and the audio on dvd's has the information to send to each individual speaker depending on what's happening in the scene. So basically you can have 5-7 speakers all playing different things. If all your speakers are playing the same content, it's not really surround sound.

Music, or the vast majority of music, is recorded in 2-channel stereo audio, thus the reason a car stereo has 4 channels but is still considered 'stereo audio'. This is the same reason a home theater receiver has the 5, 6 or 7 channel 'stereo' setting - to send audio to all of the speakers when listening to a stereo-only audio or video track.
If you have a DVD player in your vehicle, it might be worth it to grab a surround sound decoder/processor.. I say maybe because, well, not many people are on the road long enough to fully enjoy the benefit of surround sound in their car.
While we're on the topic, it should also be noted that the rear speakers in a vehicle often distort and/or overpower the audio coming from the front speakers - thus the reason that, those of us who appreciate mobile audio on a higher level, have only 2 speakers - usually a set of components, in the front of our vehicles. It's almost always better to have a nice, high end front stage and a decent sub in the trunk with no rear speakers.. in fact, I can't think of a situation where rear speakers would be needed unless your vehicle was so loud and obnoxious that your rear-seat passenger's couldn't hear the front speakers.

i appreciate the info guys. im learning audio slowly. i can build high comp motors but systems confuse me, lol. ive been doing a lot of research and am actualyl understanding what yall are talking about.
so a decent setup would be:
components up front with a center channel, and 2 "free-air" i think it is, sub/speakers in the rear? NO SUB IN TRUNK. i use my trunk WAAAAYYY too much. i hated my 10 i had in there and traded it for 10 red bulls.
what about "mid bass" in the rear?
OH another thing i want too ask.
my friend was astounded about how much room i have under my seats.
he hooked his kicker up under there just too do it and it was...."different", lol. but in a good way. it was like leaning agains the subs in the club.
my homegirl is like "i like it!" my only response was "you would you freak".
anyways, would it be pointless? would it destroy the speaker? i dont know how much room was left. im not serious about doing it, im just curious.

No center channel, but a component set is a nice start
You are thinking about Infinite baffle subs in the rear deck. You don't want "midbass" in the rear, it makes the sound less focused.
He just put a sub under the seat with no box? It won't destroy it, but subs are made to be put in a box and have no output without one. It just vibrates with the music and makes things shake.
