Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

If you guys are blowing your sub(s) so often, it's obviously user error.
I've owned Alpine Type S, Type R an Type X and have never had an issue with any of them. I've also owned Kicker Comps, Comp VRs and L7's, I've installed and heard the L5, CVX and I've dealt with multiple old school kicker lines (think; Impulse) and I've had zero issues.
Moving on from main stream branding, some well built subs are; Diamond Audio, Fi, RE (if you can afford them now - there are comparable subs out there for less moola), DD, TC Sounds (now out of business, but they make some badass subs), Eclipse (semi-mainstream... their older stuff is very impressive - think; Eclipse Ti or Eclipse Aluminum Pro), Xtant (older stuff is top of the line, harder to find, though!).
Again, user error is the most common cause for mobile audio failure.. no offense intended, guys.

I've got 4 Alpine Type S 6.5 2 ways, an Eclipse HU, 2 kicker c10's on 300 watts, and 2 pyle tweets. It sounds great, and I haven't blown anything. Trying to compare alpine to kicker is kinda tough though, because depending on how much you spend depicts the quality.
I was on a budget, and I'm a SQ guy. The alpines sounded great in everything but bass, so I knew I'd have to go with subs. The kicker subs were cheap, but they sounded "tight" in their loaded enclosure, and they wouldn't overwhelm my alpines.
Saying "Kicker is better than Alpine" or vice versa is an irresponsible statement, because in car audio, you get what you pay for, and you have to research build a quality system that won't blow in 3 weeks. I've actually had people ask me if my car had a Bose system.
Polk Audio or Infinity speakers sound good without any subs if you are looking to just buy a deck and speakers. I havent' experimented with them in my CB7 though, only my Blazer. Dual speakers aren't horrible either if you are going as cheap as possible, and they don't have a "colored" sound like I feel Pioneers and Sony do.Last edited by 93accordfreak; 06-02-2008, 02:26 PM.

I sell both products on a daily basis. Our Chain goes through alot of car audio and if you want a high end sub that is extremely clear go type X. You will not be disappointed. Alpine makes good quality stuff. Best amplifier on the planet right now for under $1000 canadian for 1000watts is the PDX 1.1000. I have sold ALOT of these amps. None defective and all pushing more than 140db with two type R subs VERY cleanly. (10s or 12s) We used to carry MTX and they are downright brutal. More of those were warrantied than Concept subs. And we sent out a shitload of concept to service.
Our kelowna store was West coast extreme SPL dealer of the month a while back when dave was hard into SQ.
Our Andre's Car won 3rd place in North america in SQ two years in a row with 3 type X 10s. They are an amazing sub and we have probably only ever warrantied 1 that the kid was retardedly underpowering it.
If you guys are blowing subs your not setting your amps properly or your over/underdriving them. I've been doing car audio for 6 years now and I have never blown a sub in my personal car. I am running alpine type-s right now and I like them. They are slightly noisy when in a hatchback just due to a noisy voice coil design but I have had them for over a year now running strong. My girlfriends car also has a type S 12 and I honestly like her single 12 ever better than my 10's.
Alpine's new type x pro speakers also won CES best of show award this year in vegas. Thats no easy task going up against every other brand in the world. one of the the best speakers i've ever heard under $1000 And their crossovers allow for time alignment and + or - 6db in 2 db increments. Very good higher end stuff. Nothing compared to the old F1 status alpine gear that they don't make anymore tho but its not fair putting those up against a $5000 retail pair of speakers!
Anyone that puts down alpine's higher end woofers has no idea what they are talking about. If you go type X however be warned they MUST be powered properly. Those subs are 1000Watts RMS, approx. 2500 watts peak. The 1.1000 PDX amp is the perfect amp for one of those subs.

Kickers hit hard but the L7 isnt a "daily driver sub". my friend had two in his jeep and i couldn't stand it. and he was hitting 144db. strap a jumbo vibrator to the roof and does about the same sound.
Now Type R is no comparison in how loud it is but quality is insanely better. also the box needed for a Type R and power needed is much smaller. good bump, low weight is always nice.
I like Memphis and Alpine. currently have a Memphis Mojo, sorta a middle ground between Type R and L7. gettin about as loud as a L7, still has better SQ than a L7 but not as good as a Type R

ur nuts man. a mojo blows the l7 and the R away. hell the m3's are still louder and better sounding then both those subs.Members Ride sold...
I'm back...... with a coupe. oh boy here we go.

I think ppl are only blowing their JLs due to wrong setup & ppl not breaking in the subs. We've had an L7 for almost a year now, and it rocks like a monster in a crappy box that's not even ported. IMO one L7 is more than sufficient, shakes things loose in the car. I'd say kicker, because I like the sound quality, just make sure it's installed by someone who knows what they're doing & follow the break-in guidelines. The Alpine Type X is probably louder...but more comparable to a Kicker Solo X.I AM VTEC, HEAR ME ROAR!!
