    Leakin trunk

Hey, new man on the board! Been watching this forums for like two years and then i an now brave enough to post lol. but anyway, I have a 91 cb7 with 311,000 miles on it that was given to me for free. However I have a trunk that leaks water when u open it up after a rain. It is the drivers side taillight. My roomie have the exact car too and he have the same problem. He already told me that he have tried everything to fix the problem but it still leaks! So any 90 or 91 cb7's have that problem? I was wonderin swappin in a 92, 93 trunk lid, but i think it is no easy task right? or is it just the lock need changed?

Thanks for the info! but sweet site man!

There's only 4 or so places you can leak from on the cars. There is the tail lights, which you need to replace the gasket and make sure the tails are tight, the clips around the rear window molding, where the gaskets on the clips can get dried up and leak, the antenna, and some people have leaked at the filler panel under the tail light.

Those are the places I would check to start off with.

          well

gotta remember every car is different. If I was you I would try the gaskets first. They are cheap and it did the trick on my car. Good luck!

I also have a leak in my trunk. Its because im missing the clip that connects the metal pieces or whatever around the rubber lining outside the trunk. right below the glass. see if u have that clip.

I know what the problem is, because I had it. Lift your trunk, see that black molding/gasket that runs around the trunk opening that forms a water channel, pull it up, there is a thin metal strip that it sits on. What happened is over time the water got under that gasket, and has rusted out, so when it rains or you wash the car, all the water that supposed to get channeled out, is leaking through a rust hole. I'm a welder so I welded mine back up.

ok thanks guys, it is the tail light not the trimmings around the trunk lid.it is just that when you open the trunk lid all the way up then the water spill out. my rooommate told me that he already did research on it when he had that problem and he told me that it was common on the 90, 91's and that he could not fix his, it was more like a defect. but i will try to change the taillight gasket first, so niow i gotta figure out how to take that apart lol. but thanks alot guys!

Yes, get new gaskets first ...

Also --- if water is leaking inside the tails (filling up with water) you can give it a way OUT by drilling a series of very small holes across the bottom of the tails when you take them out. Worked like a charm on my '91 years ago, and on a '91 Civic.

Okay, i missed read the original post, I had that problem too, but for any of you having water getting in trunk when lid is down, and is leaking towards the sides, check that rubber molding that goes around the opening, like I said that is the water drain channel, over time the water will get under that molding and rust away the metal. Just pull up the rubber where or near the wet spot in trunk,I'll bet its deteriorated underneathe.I cut mine out and rewelded new metal in mine to stop it.

Yes, check all gaskets, replace the tail light gaskets, make sure nothing is getting in through the antenna, and check anything else you can see... If you OPEN the lid when its wet, and water gets in the trunk, well, then you have been owned!
