ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    painting the heat shield

i just got the urge to paint my header heat shield. something like a high gloss black. i dunno if anyone else has done this but i just thought it would be a pretty easy thing to do to make my engine bay look better from my somewhat rusty dull shield i have now. i don't know much when it comes to painting stuff but i guess i would need a primer? and probably some sort of high temp paint. what kind of stores would i find that at and what good brands should i use? i definitely want it to shine.

i know there is a DIY on painting, not sure on the heat sheild but on what to use as far as what ur goal is. Ummm autozone/Napa/Advance AP should have all the stuff you need. Yea basically gotta sand it down and clean it real well, prime it, paint. I did my grill and it came out pretty good, but its plastic so. Deff need high temp. I forget who makes that, couple diff companies but i do know that it tends to not last as long as youd like cuz of the heat. I think if you do it right and dont buy cheap shit itll be ok.

I could be wrong, but isn't this shield aluminum? You could polish that out.....

i dont think you would need a primer for that.. i did mine just 30 minutes ago.. i sanded it off , wash and paint it with high-temp paint.

high temp paint can be found at your local auto parts store

yeah that's what i've been trying to do. i imagine it's aluminum so i've been using mothers mag and aluminum polish. works great except for that part that i have little pits in the shield with rust so right now it looks polished as heck but i have little black dots all around that are too deep to get out.

what kind of sandpaper should i be looking for? does it matter? i guess what ever gets the job done...

If you decide to paint it here is a DIY on painting the Valve Cover...might come in handy since they are similiar even though they arent of the exact same metal i dont think...o well i couldnt find a DIY on painting the HS. Yea u could polish it, that might look better but if u do paint it u should use primer because it wont stick as well(in my experience)Valve Cover painting DIY

its made of mild steel and If you want to polish it you have to get a wire drill wheel and take the paint off the back side of the heatshield. the reason there is paint on the backside is so it could take in all the heat. and yea Type G has polished it But it takes a lot of time and effort. If you want to paint your heat shield take it out which I imagine you have done and go to a walmart and buy high temp paint and get the color that best suites your taste and give about two three coats of it let it dry and let it sit overnight and then put it back on

same thing with mine so what I did was get some liquid wrench spray and spray those three bolts and then I waited about 2-3 minutes and then tried to take em off which 2 of them sucessfully came off but the top right bolt broke off But it was still secure with those two bolts when I put it back on
