ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

hey, jtek24 is your paint peeling off? you might be able to peel it all off, lol. i used tape to peel off old paint before. kinda like how a woman waxes the hair off her legs. it would take a lot of time, but it could be worth it. later.

i was able to do it with regular old masking tape, but there is some tape at home depot that maybe a little stronger. it's for HVAC work and it's made of metal (aluminum). i'd try it where there is an edge where it has started to peel already. later.

This is a geat thread. Ive used this and a very helpful salesman at the auto paint store. I painted my car in a two car garage with a box fan in one window and a screen over the other. Really worked well. I raised the car above the floor about 2ft and left it this way during the whole process. This was something that my 16yr old son and i did together. Its been a great learning experence for both of us. Theres only one thing im not to pleased with is when we shaved the door handles back the holes with alumium and filled with fiberfill and bondo as a top coat, When the car sits in the sun and gets hot i can see a faint outline of the door handles. I talked to the guy at the paint store and he said all i need to add was flex to the paint, this would have been advise i wish i had earlier.

Heres a before and after shot

We bought the car last year in October and started working on it in November and after 8 months we have the outside done and converted it from 4 lug to 5 and also added koni yellows and lowering springs better brakes and rotors. Hopefully do the h22 engine swap this winter.

Neither one of us had any experence in doing any of this but with websites like this and there step by step instructions and a little patients, Im a true believer in (build it dont buy it)

                      Thanks for all your help

damn that lude looks hot...what did you use to mold the bumper w the fender?if you used bondo i'd be worried about it breaking.car looks hot though one of the few kitted car i like.

We used layers of fiberglass and then bondo on top to smoothe it all out. And as far as it breaking its a horror of mine but i think we did a good job and it will be able to last for awhile.

                              Damn, the car looks great!!

I doubt adding flex to the paint will fix this issue with the door handle, it's just the body work prep before you paint that will illeviate this problem. The only way to verify it's perfectly flat is to wetsand this area after primer, and use the reflection from the wet surface to identify ripples (high/low spots). You could spend hours on them trying to get them perfect. Flex is normally just for fiberglass/eurathane parts that can flex like bumpers, side skirts, wings, etc.....

                                Very cool thread!

Let's say a person had a standard two-car garage but knew zero about any of this and wanted to experiment, to see where it might take them.

Actually, JDHondaprelude's experience seems just that --- and astonishing!

But anyway, about how much of an investment would it take to get going, practicing on junkyard body parts etc. first for example. Starting from scratch.

Not for the goal of becoming a pro necessarily, but an amateur who knew their shit and could do pretty much everything a few times a year (except welding) with very good results.

And are there any good books on this subject?
