ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    carbon fiber hood question

I recently purchased a TCS Portline carbon fiber hood. I was afraid of the quality seems how its $200 cheaper than Sibon and most of the other brands. As far as I can tell it is a quality hood. It looks great. I was smart enough to take the weather stripping off of my stock hood but I'm not sure how to attach it to my carbon hood. It was attached to my stock hood with plastic grommets. I don't want to drill a bunch of holes in my new hood. I was thinking about some 3M double sided tape or some sort of silicone. I tried rubber cement but it didn't work. Another question, I don't think I'm going to be doing any high speed racing. Are hood pins really important???

    Are hood pins required?
Yes. Although most of our hoods come with built-in latches (depending on whether or not your stock hood has built-in latches), hood pins are required for your own safety.

3M tape should work just fine.
Depending on how securely the hood latches, and how strongly the latch loop is attached to the hood, it might be alright to run without hood pins. I had a carbon fiber hood on my car (I forget the brand... it was a decent brand, though), and I never ran hood pins. The latch loop was thicker than stock (requiring me to modify the latch to fit), and it was on there very securely... so that hood went nowhere!

Keep in mind that you don't have to be "high speed racing" for the hood to come loose. If it's not secure, it can pop up at a relatively low speed. Even at 35mph, that hood could fly up hard enough to shatter your windshield and seriously damage your roof. It could also make you crash. Use your head when determining whether or not you can get away without pins.

I also say use hood pins and also make sure the hole for hood prop is proper. My friend's cb has a carbon fiber hood and at the last meet we were at, a good breeze blew and lifted hood just enough for prop to fall and almost hit his head. Lucky for him it caught my shoulder first.
