ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    new partial gsr seat theory.

as i have yet to find an in depth solution to gsr seat swaps, and believe me i have searched, most of what i find is "weld this" and and "take all of that apart"
all these terms can seem scary to some users and as a new addition to this community myself ive decided im going to dive in and experiment a little bit with an easy method to mounting the seats which, if successful should be pretty easy for all of us.

    now heres how it goes:
i have one seat test mounted, and in the worst way so dont crucify me for doing this.
i have noticed on the GSR seats that the mounts on one side are fixed and happen to fit on that side perfectly. the other side however is close but isnt wide enough to reach the holes, i drilled one mount out and popped the bolt through and now have a seat mounted in 3 out of the four locations. so its a crude success. the fourth mount is to long and goes past its hole so this bothered me :/

come about a week ago I was inspecting the rails on my other GSR and have thought about drilling the rivets on both mounts and bringing them closer together, and substituting the rivets for nuts and bolts. from go i can clearly see some shaving will be needed for clearance. as for the width im still contemplating how to to get that to work out without loosing integrity or symmetry.

im quite busy with work so dont expect frequent updates on the project. but if your patient i will get around to it soon and keep it all posted.

and if anyone has questions, comments, or any advice then by all means please post.

Does the fourth one still line up but it is too far away? Having bent mount locations and Frankenstein installed a few civic ef seats into a few cars and trucks I know three out of four ain't bad. I would keep it simple and get a long bolt and spacer for the fourth one.

the fourth point is the same as the third, even if i get the length corrected the width will still be an issue, but its not off by too much. so im hoping that correcting width wont be too difficult

im poking at the idea of widening the hole in the mount on one or both sides a little to fix this

I do have an edit there about a spacer. Put a socket extension through the hole in the seat rail and pull it where you want it.

that seems like a pretty good idea

Just remember that any modifications to the seat mounts could adversely effect the shear strength of that component. Hate to see someone get hurt because your seat mount or it's hardware wasn't strong enough.

I know, i know there are those out there that will say 3 should be strong enough. Well if that was the case wouldn't auto manufacturers make them that way?

I fully agree and am glad a voice of reason interjected. I am not saying three is strong enough, more like three is pretty close, the fourth one shouldn't be too hard. Personally though I have done three and a bolt through the floorboard with a nut under the car. I know it's not a mounting point so I can't recommend it and with the sacrifice in safety I already made I decided not to install nine airbags into the 1991 carolla.
